something else i'd like to point out . . . kidnapping and hostage taking happens in all forms in movies, and to both males and females. it doesn't make someone automatically weak. it's interesting to note there's no male version of "damsel in distress" which should indicate to you what a ridiculous argument it is to begin with.

That's a really good point. I had a related thought, which is that it's significant that Beverly is taken not because of any inherent weakness or bad decision on her part...Pennywise just shows up. None of the Losers are safe, except perhaps when they are all together. (As Robert Gray said, it's quite plausible that she is targeted because she is the most fearless member of the group).

I still think that Pennywise used Bev as bait to get all of the kids down in the sewers. He grabbed her because, IMHO, from the moment that Bev stepped out of her dress and jumped into the quarry before any of them had the guts to do it, all of those boys fell in love with her on some level. She had more guts than they did and she became 'one of the boys' in this scene. She earned their respect and love here.

Under your bed
Was gonna go for a third helping this weekend but...things got in the way.

Aw jeeze, I just gotta repeat how damn pleased I was by this flick, and how happy I am that It just killed like it did. Take that, Linda Blair.

But...dang, September 6th, 2019? Those fat assed nuclear D-Bags better not blow up the damn Earth before then. Fingers crossed!

Well, that's the third time this King fella has taken my money. This film still hasn't lost its potency, and with every viewing you'll find new things to appreciate. A funny note: when the lights came on there were some loud sniffles in the cinema. As I was leaving I noticed the noises were coming from three couples sitting in the back, and the guys were the ones wiping their eyes and sniffling. ;-D

And that's it for me. I'm ready for the Director's Cut now, Mr Muschietti.

Yeah, I think the exposure alone would be great. I mean, I loved Logan, and Fox is contemplating an Oscar campaign for it even though I don't think it's that good. And I mean, jeez, if a film like Avatar could be considered Oscar-worthy...

Huh? I thought it was brilliant! Did you see it in the theater in 3d? It was mesmerizing! It was beaten for best director & best picture by The Hurt Locker -- directed by James Cameron's ex-wife! (his third -- he's only had five. So far.) You've gots to hands it to them. She figures out what year he was going to finish & produce a project he'd started writing in notebooks in the 70's when he was in college, and just as his greatest masterpiece is about to hit the screen, she slaps together this tawdry little war movie and snatched two Oscars right out of his waiting hands! Women. She constructed that little piece of marital vengeance like something from the classic game mousetrap! Diabolical!
