I've just started my first foray into this one too. They were just about to board the ghost train for the first time when I left it last night. Looking forward to continuing later this evening. I've no idea where this one is going as yet (having just finished Revival which started off similarly, but with a more obvious 'foreboding' element...), but I am enjoying the ride! (Pardon the pun.)

Hi! Yes, finished it last week and I really enjoyed it. I had my suspicions from mid-way through the book who would turn out to be the culprit, but never quite narrowed it down to
Lane.

Ending spoiler:

The ending was quite a tear-jerker for me. Ever since my own little boy was born, any story such as this always pulls at my heart-strings a lot stronger than before. Again, it was generally (and correctly) stated that Mike didn't have much longer to live, but it still hit me in the emotional way it was described.

All in all, a great little book. :)

So after a false start and a 5 yard penalty, I was able to get back into Joyland. I literally just finished it this morning. Definitely a change of pace for Mr. King. As much as I enjoy his big horror epics, particularly those in the first phase of his career, I've found his smaller, more low-key works just as entertaining. This fits nicely alongside efforts like Rita Hayworth and the Shawshank Redemption and The Body. Has there been any word on adapting this one to film? I think it would be good in the hands of the right screenwriter and director.

The film rights were optioned in 2014 but no production has gone into development that I'm aware of.

I thought it was a great little tale. I even shed a tear or two, tbh.

Rob Reiner, who I think has a pretty good track record with his adaptations, would probably do a wonderful job with this. He always does well managing the dramatic elements with the comedic ones, and while I don't find Joyland to be particularly comedic, there are humorous moments and images that could make for a nice tone.
