Glad Y'all are home and safe, CAT.....♥

Don't be talking to me about 50-60 mph winds.......Two records were set at Grandfather Mountain within two weeks of each other. The first was February 13th at 121.3 mph, and the second was February 25th at 124 mph. Sustained wind speeds during these times were between 65-70 mph.
...and Yes, the swinging bridge is still there :biggrin2:
Wow. Is that location close to you?

Hallo, Tet-mates!! Well, the meeting is over..... The contract was extended but not as long as i hoped, The reason, as they were very particular to point out, was not the way i worked but that any longer terms contract that are signed for the archives personel they want the new boss of the archive to have a say in. The old one, that i liked a lot, quit last february and the new one starts in middle end of april so we're rather leaderless at the moment. The result was that i got a 6 month extension til the last of october and we booked a new time for a talk about extension or not in septembre when the new boss is there and has got to know me and her staff. I understand the reason but it would have been nice with at least a year.
Oh this is good news Kurben! Now at least you'll have time to show your new employer that you're worth every dollar! Continue to work hard my friend and give them that reason to keep you on long-term.

Yes, Grandfather Mountain is a local State Park/tourist attraction. My favorite hiking trail, where I usually take all my fall foliage photos, is on the back of it.
It is also home to the summer Highland Games.
Highland Games in North Carolina - why am I suddenly thinking of Jamie and Claire and the Outlander books series?

Sounds like it would be fun to visit!

I was reading they've been doing it for 63 years

It is so much fun! We're Scots-Irish on my Grandpa's side, so I have a special love for the games.
One of my favorite parts is the tartan flags at the beginning of the games.

Crap! We could almost have a King Kon there instead of Kansas (theme could be something about King's Scottish roots) Oh well - anyway it will be Kansas in 2020 - that's okay

Now I'm thinking of that song "Dust in the Wind" by Kansas

We have the Celtic Classic Highland Games & Festival every September, here. My favorite parts are the stage bands from Ireland, the food, the whiskey tasting, the caber toss, and the roped battleground area they stick way in the back where Neanderthals beat each other unconscious with sticks fashioned as swords. :)

Cool.

The only way I get the wife to go along to the Celtic Classic is if I promise to take her to a nearby bar afterward for an evening of drinks and karaoke.

An old relative of mine (the spitting image of my brother)…

Charlie Brown was a Morrissey, too, but had his sigil removed. LOL

I've always wanted to find my family crest but didn't want to fork over the money. I traced my lineage back to the late 1700s and I'm from England but I'd like to go back further and get specific details. My last name is Whitfield, which comes from 'hwit feld', meaning "open country".

I'm not sure. When I googled it, there were several to choose from and I wasn't confident with the website. The crests I've seen in people's homes were more sophisticated and usually information is given along with it.
Crest styles vary, but the basic design inside the shield usually remains similar regarding a family's name.
