I just wanted to write a message to Mr. King with nothing in return. In 1975 I was a 15 year old (and very pretty) lonely girl living in Presque Isle, Maine. That was when I picked up my first book by him which was "Carrie". I had a lot in common with her character. I stayed up all night till 3:00 a.m. and finished that book and have been hooked ever since. I am now a 58 year-old Rock'n Granny with two beautiful grand kids but sadly I'm a mom of an adult son who is battling heroin addiction. After reading Dr. Sleep, I was going through an extremely tough time and almost felt suicidal but strangely enough, Danny Torrence's character gave me a sense of hope that one day my son will face his demons and grow from his experience and possibly have a wonderful life as an outcome.
Anyway, I just wanted to let Mr. King know that If it weren't for him when I was that lonely little teenager, Don Kirshner's Rock Concert and Saturday Night Live, I probably wouldn't be on this crazy earth.
Thank you for your wonderful stories and as long as you keep writing, I will keep reading until I can no longer......then there is also Joe Hill!!

Devotedly,
KimD (Dumais in Presque Isle Days - Also, my mother's maiden name was Ouellette, how about that one)!!

....we are well met Kim......my wife and I have a daughter who was enslaved to the Heroin Reaper.....thankfully-she's finally clean.....it was a hellacious struggle, including a couple of near death OD's, but she bore down and got out of it.....still a daily struggle for her, but Vivitrol has helped tremendously.....I wish you luck, and for one-am glad you decided to finish your ride on the super slide of life.....

Hello, and thank you all for your responses. I really thought that I wouldn’t ever get any nice feedback. It’s really comforting to know you’re not alone. Anyway, I am currently reading “Just After Sunset” and was going to try “Horns” by his son. Any viewpoints on that one? I think he’s a great writer so far

As DanaJean stated- both good books. Ck out the thread/ posts here on The SKMB for comments once you have finished them. Good input from members.

I too have a daughter who is addicted. But she likes several drugs. It is very hard to deal with at times. I wish you the best. So happy you are joining our family here.

My heart goes out to all of you that were so nice to reply to me, especially the people who have loved ones who are addicted.....which is worse than anyone ‘s written horror novel. We all need to hang in and tune out to crazy stories to get our minds off of things that can actually tear us apart in reality.....just sayin

Welcome KimD - It seems that you remain stoic and humourful through some of lifes' adventures, good or bad. That's a rare pioneer spirit! If your son has a bit of that then he has an even better shot at moving on from his self imposed prison. All the best, mal
