This makes sense.

In Colorado you were just "down the road" so to speak;

I think I might have the same problem with Andy - although he enjoyed the trip it was very taxing on him as he insisted on doing all the driving (back in 2014 in Ohio when we saw the Prison from Shawshank Redemption).

He does like the idea that there could be people there all the way from England or Ireland however!

Are you driving from Winnipeg

That would be an awfully long drive I think, however, depending on if we are both retired by then (maybe) we could technically do it.

We would probably take our time of course and check into hotels along the way.

The more feasible option I think would be to book a return flight and rent a car.

It seems so far away now but at the least I hope to be able to get that weekend off or even from the 19th to the 24th off; because I recently switched jobs I now have quite a few people ahead of me who get to choose their time off before I do.

That was basically the only perk I had in my previous job - I was third in line out of about seven people to choose my vacation times.

Hoping Andy's health will still be good (God willing) and who knows? Maybe I'll get to pick that time period as my vacation.

I don't really want to quit my current job as I do like it, but if I had to I could come back as "casual" and just pick up shifts.

By the way, I changed my numbers this year
I am now the big six oh! Yikes!

As you know, in Canada we can take a reduced pension anytime after 60, up until 65 or 70. I believe it maxes out at 70. (Will have to get more information).

They take a certain percentage off for each month you retire before age 65.

Here is something amusing I just found on-line:

Let’s put the seniors in jail, and the criminals in a nursing home. This way the seniors would have access to showers, hobbies, and walks, they’d receive unlimited free prescriptions, dental and medical treatment, wheel chairs etc. and they’d receive money instead of paying it out.

They would have constant video monitoring, so they could be helped instantly, if they fell, or needed assistance. Bedding would be washed twice a week, and all clothing would be ironed and returned to them. A guard would check on them every 20 minutes, and bring their meals and snacks to their cell.

They would have family visits in a suite built for that purpose. They would have access to a library, weight room, spiritual counseling, pool and education. Simple clothing, shoes, slippers, P.J.’s and legal aid would be free on request. Private, secure rooms for all, with an exercise outdoor yard, with gardens.

Each senior could have a P.C. a T.V. radio, and daily phone calls. There would be a board of directors to hear complaints, and the guards would have a code of conduct, that would be strictly adhered to.

The “criminals” living in the nursing home would get lousy food, be left all alone, and unsupervised, lights off at 8pm, and showers once a week, live in a tiny room, pay $3,000 per month and have no hope of ever getting out.

Justice for all. This should make us think of what kind of world we created for ourselves.

....I have given the first design concepts for the 2018 Kon t-shirt to Lepplady....I will have her post the final product when we get there and how to purchase them....she did a hell of a job for the Colorado Kon, and I expect the same level of sensitivity and love for this one-especially since it will be tangentially honoring Nate.....

Just asked Tall Guy about flying versus driving. He asked we here it is and I said "Maine."
Without hesitation, he said "We'll fly."
Now I just have to figure out the logistics. Closest airport to our destination, etc.
Bangor would be the closest airport ;-D It's a little more costly to fly in and out of there but definitely the most convenient. Portland is around 2-2.5 hours from Bangor, Manchester 3-3.5, Boston 4-4.5. Boston would likely be the cheapest but Logan is hell trying to drive in and out of.
