The Long Walk is a way overdue adaptation!!

It could be the next Stand By Me/Shawshank.

I am always gutted that films don't do the novels justice and only a few have hit the mark, Shawshank, Green Mile, Stand by Me spring to mind.

The rest have mainly been trash 'B' movie films not worthy of the writing (although Stephen has appeared in a number of them!!).

I hope the films will be worthy of the books, particularly The Long Walk as it is one of my favourite stories.

That's because of the success of IT of course. But it's a lot of remakes and adaptations of his latest works. There are still a lot in between that no one ever seem to touch: Insomnia, Rose Madder, The Regulators, The Girl Who Loved Tom Gordon, Black House, From a Buick 8, Blaze, Duma Key, Joyland (although Tom Gordon and Buick were tried at some point). And there are still a huge amount of short stories never done, and some novellas.

I get the idea they either want to do a remake of something well known (like IT, or Tommyknockers - which despite not being one of his best, was still one of his best selling) or do a recent book whille it's still fresh from the bestseller lists.
Well, Gerald, it seems you manifested this:

"From King's more recent stories I would love to see N (collected in Just After Sunset), which again has that classic approach to horror. But I'm not sure if there's enough material in the story for a full length film."

N. has been optioned as a TV series but with the title 8

I hadn't heard about that yet. Why 8 though?

I can't remember the number of stones in the novella, but my guess is that there will be 8 stones in the adaptation.

Yes, there were 8 stones. But when a viewer only sees 7, it means Cthun is breaking through to our reality.

I'm assuming it must be a limited series. I can hardly imagine it as an ongoing series. But then they even managed to make an ongoing series out of something as short as Colorado Kid. It depends on the approach you take to it.

I read somewhere that at one point George A. Romero was going to adapt TGWLTG for the big screen but sadly that never materialised, I always wondered how far things got with planning before it got shelved.

His ex-wife, who runs the film company, has recently optioned to get TGWLTM made...let's hope it happens this time. Yeah, N. (8) would be better suited as a limiited series. If I remember correctly, that was also the plan.

Romero worked on a lot of SK adaptations that he wasn't involved with in the end, like The Stand, Pet Sematary and It. I can't say in the end I felt The Dark Half was all that special - it followed the book closely, but it lacked a certain tension, like it tried to stay too true to the story, but didn't really add anything new.
I think when Romero was working for Hollywood maybe he held back too much, out of fear the studios would change too much to his film. Or perhaps he just couldn't think of adding anything special to The Dark Half.

With ex-wife you mean Christine Forrest? But who will they pick as director for it?
