A novella to Outsider...very interesting, first I have heard of it. I wonder if this means it will be published in an edition similar to that of Elevation and Gwendy. Maybe now that it is mentioned here we will get some items on it in a news search.

Some further replies concerning the writers' retreat aspect made me think of something: I wonder if in the future the house could be used on a temporary basis as a writers' room for some of King's streaming projects (or even for theatrical). Imagine if the next season of Castle Rock was plotted out by Bad Robot at the residence. Be pretty cool, I think, especially as a marketing device, and it simply might help propagate a productive atmosphere. Would even love to see a horror-antholgy comic book using the house as a backdrop written there...where else would you write it! I wonder too if writers who stay there will have seminars for local school kids on careers in writing (tip #1: have a backup career).

So many things come to mind when I think of different uses for the home (headquarters of a King prodco, funded by a big overall deal at one of the streamers, et cetera) but whatever happens, it'll be fascinating to watch the news flow on it.

On Straub/King/Talisman: I would say at this point just plan a novella-length sequel, not even a long one; go for 30,000/35,000 words or so. Don't go for epic length. Both parties have done so much writing over the years, just get the idea out there in a thin but muscular literary body...they both have earned the right. Plus, it just makes logistical sense in terms of temporal concerns; their schedules, especially King's these days, must be quite booked. (Another idea: write a streaming-platform sequel to it, six/eight episodes, one-and-done.)

Ah a Holly novel, cool. I thought the next Holly novel was "If It Bleeds", I wonder if this is a prequel to that or a separate entity altogether?
Pretty sure it is a sequel.
EW has an exclusive on this which is why we aren't making an official announcement until later today/tomorrow but in the meantime, maybe you can read this. Not 100% sure if it will work outside the U.S.

Here's your first look at Stephen King's terrifying next book, 'If It Bleeds'

If I recall, Spielberg has the rights to the filmed-entertainment version of Talisman. He should give them up to Abrams at this point...not sure why he doesn't see immediate value in the project...(of course, I do hope his next project is the next Indiana Jones feature, but he could simply be one of several exec producers on the King project and essentially pass it on to one of his Amblin partners)...

I'm not sure if I want an Abrams version, that guy is insanely hit and miss!

Thanks for the link, it does indeed work outside the US. The premise sounds great, I hope one of the novellas has something to do with the Tower, what am I saying, don't all things serve the beam?

The problem isn't usually seeing the value in making the movie. As with all film projects, it's about finding a distributor either in theaters or on television who is willing to put up the money to do it in a way that works for both the filmmaker and the distributor. If that doesn't happen, the project dies on the vine even if it's gotten a green light at some point. That's what happened the other 3 (I think) times this was supposed to happen.

At this point I think Stephen would need to fund it himself to get it made! This seems to be quite common with Stephen, products being in development hell I mean, obviously its not down to Stephen but the studio. Maybe Netflix, they've been doing great work with Stephens properties recently.

Money funding is always the crunch for movies, Scorsese and De Niro had been trying for over 10 years to get The Irishman made and it fell through multiple times, only when Netflix stepped up were they able to get it done, I daresay if The Talisman has any chance of making it to the screen it'll be Netflix who provide the funding.

That's an interesting idea...Netflixing Talisman. Why not? That company is happy to run at negative cash flow and take on debt to produce copious hours of content, lest subscribers be bored. If producers are balking, it must be because of Spielberg's deal terms (actually, that must be a nightmare of a negotiation...King's agents, Straub's agents, and Spielberg's agents, all in a boardroom arguing over profit participation and backend buyouts for their respective clients; you know, maybe that should be the movie, a la Adaptation with Nicolas Cage - a movie about trying to make Talisman the movie/series) . I think he does have a deal over at Apple for that company's service (I want to say Amazing Stories), so Apple has to be another outlet possibility.
