I did not notice him in The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe. :(
I didn't remember him in that one, either. Always loved the books, so when the movie came out in the theater, my mom, brothers, several nieces and nephew and I went together and sat fairly close to the front. My nephew was scared and that kind of ruined the experience I guess. That was the last time we did a large-scale family movie night like that. :(

(My mom and I took two of my nieces to Where the Wild Things Are and they were scared too. Plus, I thought it was horrible. Probably because I am such a HUGE fan of the book - it was my first. :) )

Watched Goodfellas (1990) for the first time a couple nights ago. Great cast - Ray Liotta and Joe Pesci were amazing. Robert De Niro, Lorraine Bracco and Debi Mazar also gave stellar performances. Since I am currently watching The Sopranos, it was exciting to see Michael Imperioli, Tony Sirico, Vincent Pastore and Lorraine Bracco in this film (I'm sure I missed a few!). Joe Pesci played an unhinged character with frightening authenticity. And whenever Ray Liotta laughed like a loon, I was convinced he must laugh like a crazy person in real life. I know I've seen him do a psycho laugh in other movies too.

I need to re-watch Casino sometime soon.

I've never seen Murder by Death.

OMG, you must! Neil Simon screenplay starring Peter Sellers, David Niven, James Coco, Maggie Smith, Alec Guiness, Peter Fallk, a young James Cromwell, an old Estelle Winwood, Elsa Lancaster and Truman Capote... great cast having fun with cliched murder mystery tropes. Hilarious!

Indeed. I should've included it in "Best Comedies." And penned by Neil Simon, if I remember correctly.

Same here. Quotes from them are part of our family code. "You have buns and you didn't tell me?"

Just last night, as we stayed in a little mountain town, the server now known as Mr. Fourtwenty, as part of his entertaining service, brought Grandma a pot of hot tea sans teabag. Grandma poured some out and looked at the clear hot water, amused. I said, "And what did he bring us? A hot cup of nothing!" We chortled.

And the ever-popular, "The [insert word]! The [insert word]! Use your g****** articles!"

"Flames... flames coming from the SIDES of my face" and " Then Mrs. Peacock screamed (with appropriate Tim Curry imitation)" are quote staples around these parts :)
That line reminded me of the line from The Green Mile that John Coffee says to Paul: 'It's like glass, boss. Cutting into my head all the time.' or something like that.

That sounds like an all star cast. I'll have to check around for that one. Thanks Tery.

TCM showed Rebecca last night and since I am on a Daphne du Maurier reading kick I just had to watch it (again). Not only is it du Maurier as interpreted by Hitchcock it also stars the very talented, lovely and beautiful Joan Fontaine. Special shout out to Dame Judith Anderson as Mrs. Danvers. Her portrayal of this character is otherwordly.

Recently watched Full Metal Jacket with my son. He is in a film program and is currently studying Kubrick's work. He said it was "the most Kubrick Kubrick film". Made me chuckle.

Full Metal Jacket was one of the Kubrick films I sort of enjoyed. But for some reason I remember the first part of the film (boot camp) and not the last (Vietnam). I mean, not a scrap of the second part.

For Kubrick films I really enjoy, I have to go back to Spartacus and Dr. Strangelove.

When looking at Kubrick films, it's generally split between, "What a genius," and, "The guy had a disorder." I fall in the second group, but realistically, the truth is probably somewhere in between. I mean, I considered Barry Lyndon to be a disorder of a movie, and I still don't understand how he expected any normal moviegoer to make sense out of the finale of 2001 - but he clearly was master of the craft of the set to get that done the way he did.
