Went to see Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindlewald on Sunday. Very impressive. Ezra Miller continues to be the standout actor in this cast, which is quite a feat. The story gets really dark here and, like most second installments, ends on a bleak note (and with a killer twist). I do love Eddie Redmayne and his Newt is sweet. Dan Fogler (Jacob) is back, as is Queenie and her sister Tina (now an Auror). Lots of people say that Johnny Depp is too... well, Deppish but I like his Grindlewald, who is both menacing and charming. There are many Easter Eggs and references and call backs.... you could spend a week finding them.

If you're a Potter fan, you'll probably like this. If you're not, you may still enjoy it but not as much as a Potterphile.

Jason Bourne on AFX

Big fan here of the first three movies. It felt like they took a surprisingly good and successful concept, made sequels that integrated pretty seamlessly, and it was compelling. I can watch any of them anytime.

They should have left it there.

There was another one with Jeremy Renner, whom we like, but it was so forgettable that I can't even remember the plot, just flashes of a few scenes, and Grandma doesn't really remember watching it.

So here we go with Jason Bourne back in the scene. Recipe:

Toss the ingredients together for the first dish again.
Add 500 pounds of action, heartless killings, and 50 cubic yards of unbelievability.

We stuck with it because the action kept us going, Matt Damon was as quiet and deadly as gas in a crowded elevator, Tommy Lee Jones chewed up the screen, and Alicia Vikander added some unexpected gravitas within her slighter frame.

But it was just so over the top. In the other ones, you could believe that, hey, these assassins are getting things done behind the scenes. In this one?

The international covert assassin stealing an armored SWAT truck when he didn't have to and rampaging through Vegas, leaving probably at least four dozen dead innocents in crushed cars in his wake, and someone in the agency later mentions, "Not sure what our narrative will be on this." Seriously????

If I'd wanted over the top unbelievable international intrigue stuff, I'd watch a Roger Moore Bond movie.

Well, it kept us going to the end, so it had that going for it. Matt Damon is good in the role but needs a better script. Grandma liked it more than I. If you want to watch it, you'll probably enjoy it, mostly, but don't pay for it.

The Dinner - Richard Gere, Charlie Plummer, Laura Linney (on netflix)

I liked this but judging from the user reviews on IMDB, many hated this film. A lot of the hate seems to come from people that read the book. I haven't read the book so I have no opinion on that angle. The film is a bit of a jumbled mess but it kept me interested. It's one of those films that feeds you small amounts of information over time through flashbacks. So it takes about half the film to figure out where the story is headed. It's about two brothers and their wives meeting for dinner to discuss a horrific event that happened involving their children and how they are going to deal with it. It's probably not for everyone but I liked it.

Tery - that was a great review - I went into this not expecting much and just went along for the ride but found it to be a very good film. We saw it in 3D which helped a lot and I enjoyed Johnny Depp as the villain. I'd recommend it for anyone, not just the Harry Potter fans. :butterfly::thumbs_up:

Finally got to see A Quiet Place. OMG!!! Such a good movie! I like that everything isn't spoon fed to the viewer. You're pretty much thrust into the story from the start and you just get enough information about the situation to put the pieces together. I really liked the premise here. Had me on the edge of my seat the whole time and that's hard to do with this hard core horror fan. I saw the director on The Ellen Show and he said that he's thinking about the sequel. I would love a sequel, there's alot of room to play with storyline.

Watched my dvd of Silver Bullet last night. Hadn't seen it in probably 25 years and I had forgotten some of what happens. Not a great movie but not a horrible one either. Gary Busey is, well, Gary Busey!! ;)

I love Silver Bullet. It's quintessential Stephen King. I really believe it would be right up there with the best werewolf films (there aren't that many, sadly) if it weren't for the god-awful creature make-up. It's ugly and looks like a cheap Halloween costume. But man, that movie really is a whole lot of fun to watch.

Venom - garbage.

Creed II - a solid follow-up to the first film. Dolph Lundgren is absolutely chilling in some scenes, and if he had a better agent he would have been a greater success back in the 80s. The cafe scene with him and Sly is worth the price of the ticket alone.

The Christmas Chronicles
- I have hated most Christmas films as a child because they always try too hard and come off as insincere and overly-sentimental. This one I love. It was fun, kept the story simple, and you can tell Kurt Russell was having a blast in every scene. Watch this one with the whole family.

Mowgli: Legend of the Jungle
- the critics can SUCK IT. This is a great film that hews closer to Kipling's stories. Stick to the recent Disney iteration (which I also really like) for the kids, but this one deserved to be seen in cinemas.

BlacKkKlansman - a great and often funny film. Spike Lee gets little too on-the-nose with his preachiness at times, but this is solid entertainment.
