If I remember correctly I think Quentin Tarantino wrote the screenplay for that one. I haven't seen that one in years and it was good.
I miss Dennis Hopper. He was so fun to listen to and watch in interviews and his movie roles. He was a naturally gifted story teller. If I remember correctly I think Quentin Tarantino wrote the screenplay for that one. I haven't seen that one in years and it was good.
Just read an on-line review by Roger Ebert - looks like a good movie to check out!45 Years
I have watched this movie about 5 times. Something about it just draws me back to watch the performances again.
This style is not for everyone. It is a very slow, quiet movie with so much to say underneath.
Charlotte Rampling is absolutely fantastic and her expressive eyes and face just say so much.
Was it any good? I saw this was coming on Turner Classic Movies and thought about recording it, but didn'tLady on a Train (1945) B/W
Very good/ old style movie, excellent plot of who done it.Was it any good? I saw this was coming on Turner Classic Movies and thought about recording it, but didn't
*ahem*I saw it too when it came out and while overall I thought the dinosaurs looked real and believable enough, I never liked even then that first scene that shows one:
It is too fake looking. I wonder why they chose that as the first scene to show them. The problem is that the dinosaur seems to lack a certain sharpness, it seems softer in focus than the rest. And the actors are so obviously standing in front of it just from one side, that it's so clear it's not really there. It's the very first, famous big CGI shot, I suppose, but it already shows all the problems people always complain about saying CGI looks unreal. It has gotten much better since then of course, but I wasn't really convinced even then. What sold the film in the end, is that there was also a lot of use of practical effects.
In all seriousness though, interesting you say that. I thought the Dinosaurs in the scene looked pretty real (at least based on how humans perceive what Dinosaurs may have looked like). I think they chose the scene as it showed off some big and majestic Dino’s right away, complimented with the awesome theme in the background. It was an easy way for the audience 25 years ago to feel the same wonder the characters were feeling, as it was like the audience was seeing a real life Dinosaur for the first time. Interesting opinion, it’s cool you feel that way. I just think it’s really the best scene they could’ve chosen to introduce the Dinosaurs (not counting the mostly unseen raptor at the beginning).I saw it too when it came out and while overall I thought the dinosaurs looked real and believable enough, I never liked even then that first scene that shows one:

A very good Christmas movie...
It's just that one scene, it doesn't bother me in the rest of the movie. I have no problem with the particular dinosaur, just that I never thought it looked all that real. Of course you have no reference material as obviously there is no real footage of people with dinosaurs. I just wasn't as blown away by it as most people were. If you see that shot of the other dinosaurs in the distance, it has a same kind of soft focus, while the actors look much sharper in focus.
You'd also think there would be much more shadow on the grass from such a large animal. Look from 1 minute 25 seconds on, as the dinosaur sits up on its back legs to eat from the tree: there is very little shadow around him.

Murder by Death
It was a death kind of Christmas.
