You can't be serious! Jurassic Park is one of my least favourite films of all time. I like E.T. but I didn't really like Poltegeist. I bet you haven't seen Maximum Overdrive.
I’ve seen Maximum Overdrive. Conversely, I severely dislike ET and regard it as an overrated piece of garbage. Say what you want about the sequels, but the original Jurassic Park is a great monster flick.

I suppose you are right. Jurassic Park was Okay. Not as good as the Godzilla movies, though. I like E.T. because he tried to help humanity. I wouldn't classify Jurassic Park as a monster movie. Jaws is a monster movie, Jurassic Park is an Adventure movie. Just like Alien is not a science fiction movie but a horror movie.

Mmm, movies can have multiple genres. Alien, Jaws, and JP are all monster movies because they all depict savage beasts terrorizing humans. I’ve seen a few old Godzilla movies, Godzilla vs. Megaguiris is the one I remember most.

Wendy And Lucy (2008)

I have the Criterion Channel and they have had movies on the channel by director, Kelly Reichart. She has this minimalist style and simple stories that are very powerful. I wasn't familiar with her movies until the Criterion Channel put them on. I'm a fan of hers now. The most well known movie of hers might be Meek's Cutoff with Paul Dano.

Anyway, Wendy and Lucy is about a young woman who is traveling with her dog to Alaska to look for work (this movie was made when the great recession was kicking into gear). Wendy has very little money and a car that's on it's last legs. She makes it to Oregon when she encounter's some problems. It's a sad and powerful movie.

Both are fun but JP is vastly superior when it comes to depth, writing, and acting. Can anyone seriously say the actors in the Japanese Godzilla films are better than Goldblum, Dern, Neil, Jackson, and the others? But we all have different taste and I can respect everyone's different taste, I just wouldn't compare the two since they're entirely different from one another. Its like comparing Robcop to Elm Street.

I agree to differ. The acting in the Godzilla movies is better than the JP movies. So is the special effects. the JP movies did nothing for me, I think they are boring.
The first one is okay, the others are crap, I saw the one they made about two years ago, and it was okay. I would rather watch a baby picture. You can't compare Robocop with Nightmare on Elm Street, they are totally different, you can compare Nightmare on Elm Street with Friday the 13th or Halloween.

Aye, we just have different taste. The Japanese actors in the old Godzilla films in my opinion are beyond awful however the last American Godzilla film had a decent cast.

As for comparing Robocop to Elm Street, I was using that to say that is what it is like to compare JP to Godzilla, they're different animals. Jurassic Park is about dinosaurs, a species that actually existed, Godzilla on the other hand is an entirely fictional monster that never existed in the world. Robocop is about a man who is given a robotic body which may be possible in the future, Freddy is a killer who kills people in their dreams which is a total work of fiction. I'd put Jurassic Park in the action/adventure genre while I'd put Godzilla in the horror genre but that's just me...

For each their own.. :)

I understand what you mean. I'm sorry. I wanted to be like Bill Collins on the Golden Years of Hollywood but only can come on SKMB. It is surprising, I recently got Bill Collins The Golden Years of Hollywood book from an Op shop and it got the best 100 films he thinks were made up until 1987. In it he has the Beast from 20000 Fathoms, The Thing, and some other stuff that I wouldn't have expected. I used to like watching his show on the television.

He was an Australian critic, right? I actually think the Thing should be Carpenter's #1 flick, Halloween comes close but The Thing just has more of a story.
Bil Collins used to be on Channel Ten and did the Friday night movies and Saturdays I think, and sometimes middays. I don't like some of the movies that he used to show like the musicals(I hate musicals) but he used to show all the James Cagney movies and Hitchcock stuff and some SF. You could tell he was into it (apparently he had his own small cinema in his home)

Carpenter's movie Christine has aged over time, it is better now than when I watched it when it first came out. The Thing and Escape from New York are his best movies followed by Halloween. I think they are going to do a remake of Christine.

The effects in Christine were good but it failed to impress me both as an adaptation and as a movie personally. The reverse car mashing thing was clever. Carpenter movies usually have pretty great practical effects. I have huge respect for the guy who made all the puppets in The Thing, it took him like 57 weeks in his basement where he lived off soda and candy bars.

According to a few sources, season 3 of Stranger Things is going to be inspired by Carpenter, so I'm curious on what they have planned. I don't expect any killer cars or silent slashers, but I do expect them to lean on The Thing and maybe Prince Of Darkness.
