Hey kids. Been away awhile, but felt I had to tell yez about my bad experience at the theatre this summer. So...I’m probably the biggest Tarantino fan in my area (which ain’t sayin much for the podunk peasant area I live in), and the minute I saw the trailer for Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, I was salivating. Took my son and nephew out to eat at Shoops (which is our local Jack Rabbit Slim’s classic burger joint—excellent food, btw), made em each ‘cough up a buck’ for the tip, and then we went to the local crappy small-screen cineplex to see the flick. Ok, so far, so good.

So, the lights dim, my arms sprout gooseflesh, my nipples harden...and—no picture. Oh, we could hear the movie, just couldn’t see it. Lousy #@&$% digital projection system! So I led the march out so we could all get our money back, and went home thoroughly disheartened by the entire state of modern theatres for all time. Tell yez, it broke my heart.

But the blue ray comes out Nov.5, so I’m lookin forward to that. But I doubt I’ll EVER bother going to the movies again. Bad enough the screens are so small, the picture so lousy, the price so outrageous—now ya can’t even see the dang flicks thanks to these crap digital projectors.

Sorry about the bad experience with the movie but good to see you here again! You've been missed. :)

I watched Close Encounters of the Third Kind, one of my favorite movies since I was a kid. The Editor's Cut has some extended/added scenes that really make the story better. I suppose they can make the movie slow (or slower) to some people, but I enjoyed them very much. They made a perfect movie even perfecter.

I've only had that happen once or twice, but they fixed and showed the movie from the start.

I go to the movies early on Saturdays so the tickets are relatively cheap. But it is in the food that the real expense is. Those pop corn/soda/hot dog combos are rather expensive, especially when buying for two people.

My boyfriend always tries to get tickets for the two first rooms in the theater. Those are the ones with big screens. The rest are way smaller, some even with dirt or something that is still there on the screen even if you go a month later (must be some tear marks on the screen).

.....the water rodent AND Cesar are back......youse been missed......

Thanks, Scott.

On paper, it's not as if I've been truly gone, but work hours and board hours don't exactly match. It's a matter of low workload happening during a period when the board is open. If both happen at the same time, I can be here. ;)

Finally watched Spiderman: Far From Home. Some real tear-jerker moments (if you've seen Avengers Endgame) but it didn't dwell on that. I loved the chemistry between Tom Holland and Zendaya. Also the side plot with Happy and Aunt May (when did she become sexy?!) is a fun note.

I like how this movie focused on the way teens who came back would take the events from Infinity War/Endgame. I suppose it would be way worse for the people who stayed. Although some, like Brad, could beyoung enough to adapt more easily than many adults.

And May became sexy the instant they cast Marisa.

Monty Python and the Holy Grail- We watched it in class for Funsies, I can't believe it's taken me this long to see the respected British comedy classic. Absolutely amazing, the humor is everything to expect from a Monty Python movie.

8/10
But was there a penguin on the telly? :D

Good for you! Getting the Monty Python jokes is a requirement for my friends. I actually broke up with a guy because he didn't get any of Life Of Brian. Just sat there like a lump, not even a smile. :no_pig:

Dolemite is My Name

Excellent comeback movie for Eddie Murphy and Wesley Snipes. Very funny, insightful, and a touching paying of respect to a pioneer of comedy and rap.

The movie is essentially a bio-pic of Rudy Ray Moore. I had heard of Rudy Ray Moore and the Dolemite character but have never seen any of the films or heard any of Moore's comedy before watching this movie. Funny stuff. I can now see the influence he had on Eddie Murphy, Chris Rock, Samuel L. Jackson, Snoop Dogg, and other comics / actors / rappers.

I'm actually going to see Dolemite in a few weeks. There is a midnight screening of it at the Coolidge Corner Theater in Brookline, MA. First time I haven't seen the cult movie being featured beforehand. Should be fun!

Baby Driver starring Ansel Elgort as Baby (co-star in The Fault In Our Stars), Kevin Spacey (before the controversy), Lily James, Elza Gonzalez, John Hamm and Jamie Foxx. I loved this movie! 'Baby' is a get away car driver working for Spacey. It's an action film with amazing car chases. All of the action is choreographed to music, which might sound stupid but it is fantastic. Even the gunshots are in time with music. Hamm and Foxx are not very nice guys here.

I tried watching the musical last night because it had 34 Beatles songs in it. But they changed the songs up too much for my liking and didn’t get through 10 minutes before switching to the Hallmark Channel.
Are you sure you're not a girl? :m_bigwink:

BTW there are quite a few Beatles songs in a movie called "I Am Sam" with Sean Penn

Indeed. I have the same requirement. If you don’t like Monty Python, we can’t be friends.

Anyhoo:

Kissin’ Kaiju (released as It Happened at Mount Fuji in the USA) , A.I.P/Toho, (1966)

Elvis stars as singing test pilot Rocky O’Riley, sent to Japan to fly an experimental supersonic spacecraft that crash lands at Nagasaki when King Ghidorah, annoyed by Presely’s Rockabilly rendition of Jet Jaguar’s Jumpin’ Jellyfish Jamboree, slaps it out of the sky. Of course, all this commotion draws the attention of ol’ Gojira, Mothra, Rodan, and (inexplicably) a pre-gamma irradiated Bill Bixby, who join our mean-green ‘gorilla-whale’ in stomping the three headed Ghidorah back to the Stone Age. Look for the big rockin’ climax wherein Elvis suits up in his gigantic white rhinestone-encrusted gundam robo-jumpsuit to deliver the coup de Grass on some Kaiju a$$. Burgess Meredith cameos as a very politically incorrect Count Nipposan, Ghidorah’s only human ally. Three and a half stars.

I consider watching the Hallmark Channel movies authoritative research into the female psyche. Sigmund Freud would approve… or at a minimum Timothy Leary would give it a thumbs up because he believed learning how to operate a soul figures to take time. :)
Oh boy - lots of research coming up soon - as we count down to Christmas you'll have a good choice of treacly sickly sweet movies (hmmm - I think I sound jaded) :question_pig:

I have run across one or two that are quite nice but you have to like the characters - good luck with your studies!

My studies have so far led me to the conclusion that one might think their movies center on family, love, forgiveness, and compassion, but in reality Hallmark Christmas movies are horror films in disguise. They’re filled with emotional abuse, passive-aggressive forcible confinement, and entire communities conspiring to sabotage women into accepting less ambitious rolls in life. And if they resist they will be forever tormented for failing to yield to the allure of the hot widower with young children. The big question that I have yet to resolve is why these movies appeal so much to the womenfolk. Is it that women can’t seem to resist the appeal of the benevolently sexist male? Deep stuff! :)
