I watched "Parasite" over the weekend and it was very good. Hard to stop watching, very tension-filled. I've seen other stuff from this director and liked it as well, so I guess I'm officially a fan!

Some interesting home video releases just arrived on the shelves today: "Jojo Rabbit", "A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood" and "Midway"...

also, The Hall of Lost Steps, Pearls of the Deep.

Uncle, Footprints and The Hall of Lost Steps are on the blu-ray. One has an ending which reminded me of a very famous Edgar Allan Poe adaptation.
One is a student film, but even that looks very professional.

Valerie is a truly unique film. There are films akin to it thematically, of course, as there always are to any film. But the aesthetics are quite unique. It doesn't look like anything else I can think of.

I just started it and barely into it. Its look reminds me of a couple Roger Vadim films, the style not necessarily the topic or genre. The visual style I'm speaking to.

Roger Vadim is quite underrated in general, I think. In Histoires Extraordinaires his segment is often thought of as the least, but I like it as much as the others.

The problem is when one company gets their hands on a film for a certain region, it's very hard/impossible to find another in the same region. Arrow, which is a dependable distributor even sells this one in their own shop, even when it doesn't have their own standards.

In The Bedroom (2001) Sissy Spacek, Tom Wilkinson

This is my second time seeing this and it hasn't lost it's punch after almost 20 years. Sissy Spacek is phenomenal in this (I think I've said that about her many times before :)). The movie is very dark and difficult but you can't take your eyes off it.
have you seen Sissy in 'night, Mother? Her and Anne Bancroft were absolutely phenomenal in their performances. It appears that this was a camera shot that was flowing through the scene with the actresses (kind of like 1917 does) while they did bits of business with props, mostly Sissy. It was an amazing story and amazing work by these two actresses.

No, I haven't seen that one. I'll look for it.

Ever seen Missing with Jack Lemon? That's another favorite Sissy flick.

One of my favorite films. Superb. The short story, on which it's based, is worth reading. You'll like it.

I also watched Parasite last week and I found it an amazing breath of fresh air in the movie world. Had me guessing just what was going to happen all the time. The storyline was so good!!! I am not a fan of modern architecture but I fell in love with that house.

I also watched Change-Up starring Jason Bateman and Ryan Reynolds. Good movie with a few LOL moments. I also watched Spiderman- Homecoming starring Tom Holland. Tom is the best Spiderman IMHO. He's adorable, funny, cute but not drop dead pretty which his character needs to be. Now I have to find a copy of the newer Spiderman movie soon!!

Watched Marriage Story. It got a lot of good reviews of the critics, so I wanted to watch it myself, and I like Netflix movies, so I gave it a chance. It was really not bad, very exciting to watch, though it seems like there's not too much to see, as the movie tells about a married couple that is going through divorce, and most of the movie is their arguments, their meetings with lawyers aand all that stuff. But somehow it is interesting, I guess they showed us rral life Herr, they show how two people that used to be close cannot hear each other and the one whonis suffering most is their child, they say they do everything for him, but everything they do only makes it worse and harder. Something to be thinking over, I guess.

Re-watch of the original Fright Night on Crackle (free streaming service). Movie was great! Crackle? Not so much. You have to sit through a set of advertisements every 15 minutes or so and you can't skip them

"You're so cool Brewster!"
I love the original Fright Night. A few years ago, I found it in the $5 bin at Walmart and added it to my little collection.

Over the weekend I watched The Martian starring Matt Damon. I loved this movie! Very believable scenario of a man left behind on the first manned mission to Mars and how he survives and eventually rescued. Based on the bestselling novel written by Andy Weir. He worked in the space/aeronautics field and would have to come up with solutions to these types of scenarios so he knows what he's writing about.

I also watched Dead Man starring Johnny Depp and directed by Jim Jarmuschi. Filmed in black and white. I fell asleep twice during this one so that should tell you something. I finished it but it was a chore. I just didn't really believe that the Depp character would have survived out in the wild west of the late 1800's.
