dawn of the planet of the apes....

not gonna jump on the 'it's the best apes movie ever' bandwagon...not even gonna go so far and say it's better than 'rise...'

but it is at least that (first ?) very fine films equal...if 'rise...' was a bit of a warped remake of 'conquest...' than this is a bit of a quasi remake of 'battle...'

i had some issues with the storytelling, especially as to Koba (URKO !) and the...umm...quickness of his turning considering the devastation it wrings upon both communities...wish they'd spent just a bit more there to show a more fully defined arc...

and the reaction by a rather hefty percentage of the ceasar led colony was a bit too easy because of that rather quick jump...

and that last battle ???

...way too 3D orientated for my liking...and ceasars reaction to all of this was quite unexpected and just didn't ring true: a bit too easily fatalistic...still, these are minor quibbles...for the momnet , it's my favorite big-tent film of the summer by far...
I saw this too and I agree about the Koba storyline. I was nervous about getting all weepy during this, but I didn't at all. Maybe it was CGI or the 3D filming process or whatever, but I never really accepted them as real. Laugh at me if you will, but when Kim Hunter exchanged her baby for the zoo baby, I was bawling my eyes out. Of course, I was a kid then too. I was much more invested in the Roddy McDowell versions of the Apes than these new guys.

I thought the movie was okay.

I've not seen any of UTD--no cable, and apparently CBS doesn't play ball with Hulu much. I can't understand the deal with the Nadine/Lucy mashup. Maybe it was to avoid having to deal with the suicide of Larry's first woman?
Just finished part 2 of The Stand and I think some of the Nadine/Lucy morphing has to do with time restraints and feasibility. By eliminating Rita's character
having Nadine popping pills is a likely scenario and portraying Lucy as Joe's caretaker makes a lot of sense. Maybe besides confusion, SK didn't think viewers would want to see Larry getting it on with a significantly older, pill-popping socialite. A lot the "unsavory" horror was eliminated too-Lloyd's cannibalism, the sexual abuse Trashcan Man endured. Which makes sense since it was a TV miniseries.

Saw Jersey Boys tonight. My husband and I laughed all the way through it...so cliche and over-acted. We were like a couple of teenagers laughing about everything. The Broadway show did not transfer well to film.

Begin Again - warm and delighful musical shenanigans in New York, if improbable and sweary
Dawn Of The Planet Of The Apes - more monkey business as society dies. Think Cell, only with bananas instead of phones

Nice to hear that about Begin Again. I really enjoyed Once, but wondered if this movie would work as well. Hansard sold Once in a way that I don't think an actual actor could.

I read that Amazon paid $700,000 per episode (that was season one - maybe higher for this season) to air Under the Dome so I'm sure at that price, it's an exclusive deal. You probably won't see that one on Hulu.

Steve Martin, Edie Brickell, and the Steep Canyon Rangers, taped earlier this year in Riverside, CA.
Great bluegrass and wonderful patter from Martin throughout.

He came here to Spokane with his band a while back. I wish I had gone to see him!

I just watched them, twice, on PBS. Love them and I have a couple of their tunes on my Ipod. My favorite:
