Hostiles - a first rate film tries to escape from a quite good film (about a strongly anti-native American cavalry officer tasked with taking a Chief back to Montana to die) and fails. At 140 minutes, it needs to lose at least half an hour.
All The Money In The World - Michelle Williams is excellent in Ridley Scott's stodgy and unexciting re-telling of Paul Getty III's kidnapping. At 140 minutes, it needs to lose at least half an hour.

I watched Bright last weekend and I don’t really understanding the critical kicking it’s taken. I thought the premise sounded kind of stupid and I’m not really a fan of fantasy so I wasn’t expecting much from it myself but, you know, it was just sitting there staring at me every time I fired up Netflix. I thought it was pretty entertaining.

Not a movie, and (I’m a little late to the party) but I’ve been watching episodes of Black Mirror. Really impressed so far! Reminds me of a combination of Twilight Zone and AHS. Brilliant writing and thought provoking. Also, I’m fascinated with most of their futuristic technology ideas, and wonder why some of these don’t already exist?

Patton

I had never seen George C. Scott in his iconic role and took the time to do so. Interesting enough. Made me research Patton further and was quite surprised at what I thought I knew and what the reality was. The US used him as a decoy during WWII instead of having him actually command anything, he was a loose cannon due to some incidents of slapping soldiers. He felt the most honored person in the service was a wounded man, not a dead one. And he had no tolerance for anyone suffering battle fatigue and slapped two enlisted men for his lack of compassion and insisted they both be sent to the front lines. Not sure if that happened (the slapping did, not sure the soldiers got sent to the front lines), but he sure got in trouble and Eisenhower (?) felt he was too much a risk. Gen. Omar Bradley, his former subordinate, was put in charge.

He said , "There's only one proper way for a professional soldier to die: the last bullet of the last battle of the last war."

He ultimately died from injuries sustained in a car accident 12 days earlier.

He was quadriplegic due to the accident and complications from that are what finally got him.

Lame film about two women stuck in a shark cage during a diving expedition with a fly by night operation run by Matthew Modine.

Here’s a tip: If the dive operation’s boat is rusted, the cage is rusted, they only charge $100 for the dive, let you dive even though you’re not dive certified, and they chum the crap out of the water, run away!!

The Green Inferno - As someone who liked Hostel and Knock Knock for what they were, I was disappointed. Eli Roth seems to have a bad habit of putting dickhead characters and dumb jokes into good horror premises, and it was really dragged the movie down. Not to mention the movie looked like crap - bland cinematography, uninteresting sets and costuming etc.

Eden Lake - A really, really excellent gritty horror-thriller. The last third of the movie in particular was mortifying, the ending was a gut punch. I would happily mention it in the same breath as The Texas Chain Saw Massacre as far as rough, nasty backwoods horror classics.

Locke - Fairly straightforward drama made worthwhile through its interesting central premise, and, most crucially, a captivating performance from Tom Hardy.

The Fly (1986 version) - Great body horror that uses icky special effects to serve the story, not the other way around. Geena Davis was great, and Jeff Goldblum killed it. "I'm an insect who dreamt he was a man and loved it. But now the dream is over... and the insect is awake."

Locke is a fantastic movie! Hardy is riveting.

IT!! Finally! I loved it. Those kids did a fantastic job - I was really impressed with the girl who played Beverly. And Skarsgard.... WOW! We watched the extras and was fascinated with the way he prepared and played Pennywise. Just amazing. I want to watch again. Maybe skip Ben's little jaunt to the library basement, though. That hit one of my biggies
