The Iron Giant (1999): Saw it in theaters for its 20th anniversary, this may or may not but still probably is my most rewatched movie of all time, I've seen it close to 14 times now, and it's definitely a favorite, certainly when it comes to animated films, it's my dad's all time favorite movie too. Nothing much new to say about a film I've seen so many times, but this one never gets old. A great blend in humor and emotion, I can see why a lot of people call it a perfect movie. 10/10

Scream (1996): The movie that re-sparked the slasher genre and popularized self-aware horror genre. What's so good about this film that a lot of so called "self-aware" horror films fail to do is to actually give the self-awareness a point. While other movies try and fail to be funny because "hahah just because we make fun of tropes in a genre automatically makes our movie super funny and we don't have to do anything else to make it a quality movie, right?", Scream uses it to to actually strengthen its horror. I think this is one of the more disturbing slashers, as it definitely feels more realistic, no super over the top kills (besides the garage door), the killer isn't some magic man capable of entering dreams or seemingly teleporting everywhere, just two very disturbed teenagers who can make the same mistakes the protagonist can. Something that makes this film even more disturbing is that it only came out a few years before Columbine, and why I'm not saying anything crazy like this movie somehow predicted it, there are certainly a few odd parallels to it. Regardless of spooky coincidences, this movie does a lot right that the movies it inspired didn't. Also the cover of Don't Fear the Reaper near the beginnig is really good. I'd give this movie a high 7/10

San Andreas starring Dwayne Johnson, Carla Gugino (she of Gerald's Game fame) and Alexandra Daddario. Pop corn action movie. This was a re-watch but I wanted to watch a good disaster movie and this was on sale at Walmart on bluray for $5. Saw it in the theater when it was first released. Didn't notice how big the breasts were of the gal playing the daughter (Alexandra). When she was running I thought that they could've caused an aftershock of their own.

BlacKkKlansman

Tough movie to watch. Took me a bit as I had to keep walking away from it. The last 10 minutes is riveting.

I have a problem with Spike Lee. Not for one minute can I fully understand the Black experience. I can try my best to understand, but I have not walked in their shoes. But don't insult me nor lump me in a group of haters and ignorants. I can cry too for what has happened to a group of people in this world. And it is still happening.

The fact that Spike gets so damn condescending towards the movie-going public is irritating. He owes Morgan Freeman a damn apology for his comments about the movie Driving Miss Daisy. Obviously Little Lord Lee didn't "get it." He didn't get the struggle, integrity, dignity and intelligence that Morgan's character had to find in himself to survive in a hateful world. Morgan's role in that film taught me more about being a human being, and embracing other human beings.

Can Spike be unhappy about not winning awards he thinks he deserves? Yes. Absolutely! But, everything I need to know about the man is shown to me in how he loses. He is a poor sport and a bad loser. And that shows the measure of the man.

His little-man-syndrome temper tantrums are silly. Turning his back on the winners this year when Greenbook won. Not clapping. Apparently leaving soon after. Making the comment that, "every time someone drives someone, I lose."

I guess Jordan Peele didn't clap either. Disappointing.

But, BlacKkKlansman is good. Spike did a good job. Tense and gut twisting, I was anxious throughout and he had me right where he wanted me.

Now, try again Spike. Work hard. Be the smart, creative, talented guy you are and keep reaching, revealing, teaching, informing. Keep striving for those awards that you feel you need and deserve.

I saw Once Upon a Time in Hollywood.

Tarantino is so interesting. The details he slips into his movies, the odd encounters, the attention given to light and shadow and movement and stillness. He is so good at this. Perfect music choices. And I have never been a Brad Pitt nor a Leonardo DiCaprio fan, but I am now. They were perfect together. This was a skilled pairing of two very ego driven Hollywood players.

And the ending left me feeling a bit wistful -- would'ves should'ves could'ves what ifs..... A little bit of awwww....

I think Tarantino is a super weird guy, but I totally dig his brilliant creativity.

I think this might be my favorite Tarantino now. I will own this.

If you see this in a theater, stay till the very end. And I mean till the last frame rolls. The credits have DiCaprio doing some extra stuff, and then after that is an audio that is fun. Very quirky Tarantino add-on.

I was excited for this but my parents went and saw it by themselves and left me to watch my siblings. I noticed the guy who played Manson has played Manson in another film, what a wonderful role to get Type-casted as

Yes, I saw that. Apparently he went to the audition for the movie never thinking Tarantino would pick him because of the fact he had done Manson before. But Tarantino did not care about that at all.

So yeah, good luck guy getting a Disney movie.

Went to Seattle last weekend and stayed at my brother's house. Watched Manchester with Helen Mirren. It was promoted as a horror film but it is not. This is why it bombed at the box office. It is, however, an excellent psychological thriller. There are no jump-out-of-your-seat scary moments here. Well, maybe one. The acting is excellent (it's Helen Mirren for crying out loud!!). This movie is a slow burner and it will pay off if you hang in there till the end.

Swiss Army Man directed by the Daniels.

Okay. I really should hate this movie. I'm not a fan of crude humor. The driving force, pun intended, centers around bodily functions and what they can do for a person.

But it was really a terrific work of creativity. Insanity. Whimsy. Fantasy. Moments of humor. Moments of deep sadness. As they say, if you looked up the word Odd in the dictionary, there would be a still from this movie.

Daniel Radcliffe plays a corpse. Now, you would think that would be an easy gig, but he plays the hell out of that role. He is so good.

There are commentary youtubes on this and I'll be watching. A lot of messages and lessons here that will be unique to the viewer.

IT, part two.

The opening moments of the film were brutal and had my eyes all swimmy. Hard to watch. But I think everyone did a great job. So much better than that lame miniseries with John Boy and the gang. That thing was just embarrassing. This new one was very well done.
Oh, and meant to say, you don't need to stay through the credits. There is nothing else at the end of the movie related to the movie.

BUT, there is a tribute to a Warren Appleby, a special effects coordinator guy who died in a terrible accident on the set of Titans when a test stunt went wrong.

It's the first time I've ever seen a tribute with an actual photo of the person, usually it's just "In memory of" and a name. They showed this photo. So, if you would like to honor someone who has brought magic into your life through their talent in movie making, stay till the end and give the guy his due.

I saw It Chapter 2 as well, really enjoyed it. The scene under the bleachers was creepy as hell.
