As I've only just learned of the actor's death (a great loss), it reminded me of the fact that I always thought Leslie Carlson would make a brilliant Randall Flagg. Specifically his Hearts in Atlantis incarnation (provided you believe he's Raymond Fiegler) or maybe even Eyes of the Dragon. If you've ever watched Videodrome, Leslie Carlson as Barry Convex really personifies that description of Flagg as having a frozen grin on his face, that masks something deeply wrong and unsettling behind it. For those who've seen Videodrome, do you agree that Leslie Carlson would've made a good Randall Flagg?

Leslie Carlson

I think each of us has our own visible conception of various fictional characters which have yet to be decided upon by someone else. If I'd not seen Sean Connery as James Bond when I was a teenager, but instead had first heard of Bond in an Ian Fleming novel, I'd have my own idea how Bond looks. I've seen how two someone elses so far think Carrie White looks. I'm looking forward to seeing who is chosen to represent in film the icons Randall Flagg, Roland Deshaine, and others. Whomever they'll be won't be who exist already in my mind, though.

I'm not sure if I'm comfortable with the implications of this closing line. I was simply asking whether or not people think he'd have pulled off a good performance as Flagg, based off of his performance in Videodrome. I was not asking whether or not people had the image of Leslie Carlson in their mind when they read the books (which you'd have to be ludicrous to assume, quite frankly), or even trying to impose onto others my own visible conception of who Flagg is.
