It’s happened a number of times since I moved here. We had ice storms one winter that damaged a lot of trees.

Third time this winter, we have snow on the ground. Today, though, it's mostly freezing rain and sleet, which has shut greater Houston down, for the most part. Roads and bridges are iced over. We have a smattering of white stuff on the ground, rooftop, patio furniture, etc. and it is 26 degrees with a windchill in the low teens. Won't get above freezing at all today and more precip is expected. Fortunately, I had the option of not going out. Heard the next door neighbor trying to scrape the ice off his windshield a while ago.

This morning, CBS news reported there were 582 accidents in Houston due to icy roads :( I hope you don't have to get out on the roads.

There are icy roads and Jack-knifed 16-wheelers all around us but, except for a few small patches of black ice, the roads in our little hamlet have been good.

Not venturing out today, either -- the ice that piled up on the roads yesterday is still there today and won't thaw out until later today.

On the down side, we seem to have a frozen water pipe. Nothing burst, but we're without water until things warm up some.

After wrapping the entrance pipe with a heating pad for an hour, we have water again! Crisis averted.
