I just started episode one on Netflix. I noticed season five is coming at the end of the month. I'm hooked already. I will be avoiding this thread until I've completed all available episodes. I remember someone suggesting the Craig Johnson books because I am a C.J. Box fan and they are similar.

We are about to start season 4 here. Do read the books. Some of the stories turn up in the series, some don't. Do yourself a huuuuuge favor and read the books.

Okay, I certainly will. I heard today that Netflix has renewed Longmire for a final (6th) season; I'm glad. Let me know when you finish S4...it has the best cliffhanger of all, I think.

We just watched the show where they're staking out Henry. There's a return to some native mysticism, and at least to us, that was an element we missed from early seasons. Looking forward to the next one.
We are just about to get season 4 here. I believe season 5 is awesome and they are going to finish season 6 properly without a cliffhanger.

Well, it's done. Grandma and I Netflix-binged on it over about three or four nights.

At the more granular level, I was about 85% happy with the finale. Not going to discuss it, not even as a spoiler. It mostly sat well, but there were jarring things.

At the more macroscopic level, it was one of my favorite seasons. Just 10 episodes, but nicely done.

Soooo..... let me add a couple things. Maybe downers. And this is highly personal to me, and no one else. But it bugged me.

For one, they have no idea of legal stuff. Federal/state, Wyoming/Colorado, civil/criminal, they passed through these borders indiscriminately and gleefully for the good of the story. And I guess that's okay if the general population doesn't get the distinctions. But I do. And man, it was jarring.

For another, Longmire has a special bottle of Scotch in his drawer. He pulls it out for the special occasion. The name on the label is obscured, but it's pretty obvious (to me) that it's Lagavulin.

He pours out a dram and downs it in one gulp.

NOOOOOO!!! Frickin', NOOOOOOOO11111

If you're going to down a sublime tasting alcohol in ONE GULP, hell, why not make it Jack or Evan Williams? You're not tasting it. What does it matter?

Okay, I can start breathing again. The last season really was pretty good. If you believe me, then start it from Season 1, Episode 1, or you won't get the context. And if you're familiar at all with legal proceedings (or Scotches), then grit your teeth and keep on watching. Don't mind all that other stuff. It really is good.
