Hi! I am an English teacher in Leander, Texas. My students and I are working on a persuasive writing project and they challenged me to participate along with them. I have chosen to write Mr. King to request an autographed publicity photo. After reading a few things on the message board and elsewhere online, I realize that this may be a long shot, but I would like to send my letter anyway. Can anyone provide a mailing address for fan mail?

Stephen doesn't do autographed publicity photos (see FAQ on Home page of the site) so the letter wouldn't help in this case. Plan B?

I hated this assignment in school. I wrote back in 1987ish and to my hearts dismay ... never received a response. It is now 30 years later and I would still love to have Mr. King actually read and respond to my letter. I understand how very busy the man is but when a child writes, Mr. King or his staff should at least respond. I love his works of art, admire him for the unique person he is but don't expect much from this prolific writer who doesn't quite seem to care about the fans he creates. It's such a shame really to be an admirer/fan of an author who is actually living and to have your expectations crushed. Find another author ...

I began working with Stephen at the end of 1988 and, while we tried our best to answer each and every letter, some did not receive replies. Whether it was on my watch or not, I'm sorry your letter was one of those not answered.

Not answering thousands of letters does not mean he doesn’t care. He would never have time to write books if he were to write back to every person who dropped him a line. At some point, his replying (or even staff replying) becomes a full-time job that cuts into the actual process of writing novels. To me, the books are his way of showing he cares, especially the Constant Reader letters in many of his novels.

Very well put - thanks!
