Since SK's Facebook page has a link to an article saying McConaughey's up for Flagg, I think we should probably take that as the actual news. Hehehe. What does it say if McConaughey could convincingly play Roland, Flagg, and Stu Redman? Is he that versatile of an actor or are they all similar characters?

Matthew McConaughey (is that how you spell it?) is, I think, a very talented and versatile actor. Probably a bit young for Roland as he's written, but I can see him as Flagg. Especially after watching Killer Joe.

I guess he could play the bongos and smoke weed while he foretold Roland's future with a deck of tarot cards....then for S&G he could drive everyone to the Dark Tower in his Lincoln SUV.....

Don't forget -- Roland took mescaline before communing with the Oracle.

He's a very good actor -- check him out in Dallas Buyer's Club to see his range. He could definitely do this.

Oh yeah, I like him as an actor, I was just combining all his roles as far as bongos, smoking weed, and the Lincoln SUV thing..lol

Exactly! He is very versatile, and puts a lot into his roles. I also highly rate his performance in True Detective, another portrayal where he is barely recognisable to himself in real life. McConaughey is definitely more than just a pretty boy, he can really act. :cool2:

Matthew McConaughey has set his sights on an iconic Stephen King villain.

Sources tell Variety that Sony wants McConaughey to play Walter Padick — aka the Man in Black — in Sony and MRC’s adaptation of King’s “The Dark Tower” franchise. McConaughey has just received the script and has not yet decided whether he will star.

Sony and MRC declined to comment.

Padick is a demonic sorcerer who Roland “the gunslinger” pursues in the first book. The character first appears in “The Stand” and goes by the name of Randall Flagg, a character that McConaughey was also offered to play. “The Gunslinger” will be the first in a series of films.

Nikolaj Arcel is directing the movie, which is currently set to bow on Jan. 13, 2017.

The first book, “The Gunslinger,” has already been adapted by Akiva Goldsman and Jeff Pinkner. Goldsman and Imagine Entertainment’s Brian Grazer, Ron Howard and Erica Huggins will produce, while Pinkner will exec produce.

Sony will distribute the pic. MRC will also develop a TV series to go along with the film franchise.

McConaughey recently finished filming the Stephen Gaghan drama “Gold” and also has “Sea of Trees” set to bow later this year. He is repped by CAA.

I also liked him in Frailty .. well.. I actually like him in everything.. and yes.. he has a purty mouth! GNTLGNT :m_bigwink:
I don't see any pretty actor as Roland unless they shadow and otherwise hide his face the whole time. The ideal choice for Roland would be Clint Eastwood from 35 years ago, but I say that probably because that's how I pictured him from the start with The Gunslinger.

When I was reading The Stand and The Dark Tower, I couldn’t help but picture McConaughey there each time Flagg appeared, with his smirk and easy charm. Timothy Olyphant would probably be a decent Flagg, too.

Whoever is cast as Roland is going to piss off a lot of King fans. King basically describes him as Clint Eastwood, and Eastwood is too old to play that role.

....exactly, and that's why the look is so important....Clint's boy looks a ton like him...don't know if he can act worth a lick though....
