I don't know if this is the right place to say this, but I'm always surprised that there aren't that many users of this board, or at least not as many as you'd expect. It's the board of one of the most popular and widely read authors of all time, and certainly of our times. In the US he's one of the best known writers, but he's translated all over the world.
There is a group of Constant Posters, but it's a relatively small one. Every now and then someone new comes by with a question and usually disappears again. You'd expect the site of such a celebrity to be busier. He is a megastar among writers.
And even for those who don't read him, the films (or at least a number of them) are amongst the best-known and highest rated ever.

How is it possible it's not busier?

….the only way folks know about it is if they find the main web page....it's not as if any advertising is done.....I kinda like the "small town" feel.....

Let's see if I can shed some light on the subject. As we approach summer, many of the regular members are caught up in family activities. Children are off school, they take family vacations. Some are continuing their education.

Since this is the Official SK MB it is moderated by MsMod and three other volunteer moderators. There are rules of respect for topics as well as toward the membership. Many may feel they do not like the "restrictions" of being moderated for a period of time. This is not a Face Book group. It's not a "chat room".

Yes, some come to find an answer to a question, discuss a new book, or just to say hi and do not continue posting. That is ok, we are always happy to help newbies. You will find this membership is very close knit-- often referred to as Ka-Tet ( one made of many). We have become family. A group which demonstates care, concern and friendship towards each other.

You will also find, very important, this is the safest MB on the net. Jordan puts in place every possible techno thing to keep us safe. MsMod, and the other Mods watch the discussions. Those not following the rules are warned, and if they continue are banned.

It is also a seek and find MB-- not advertised per say. A simple search will provided the needed link. In this day and age, many desire immediate answers, no rules, and a freedom to post inappropriate material. Not happening on the Official SKMB.

But the site is easily found from google, SK's Twitter account or Wikipedia. I don't have the US books, but most likely it's mentioned in these too.

It's possible not many are that interested in message boards, although IMDb was always very busy before they took the message boards away. It's possible as Spideyman says that the restrictions drive people away: the IMDb boards were almost without moderating and Twitter is too - what you often see though without moderating is that there is a lot of bickering and name-calling. That's why IMDb took the boards away, but you also see often people leave Twitter (celebrities too, like Josh McDermitt or Millie Bobby Brown).
It's strange that while an approach like this site is much better, it does attract less people.

I don't mean it as a complaint, because I appreciate very much the moderators now having time to give indepth information about SK. But for someone with 4.83 million followers on Twitter you'd expect more to come to the board.

There are hundreds of separate visitors visiting this board every day, they just don't log on. And no, those aren't just bots and web crawlers. There are hundreds of them too!

It's probably a combination of a lot of things. His Facebook page gets the most activity of his social media with something like 5 million likes. We have been around since the end of 1998 but message boards aren't the "in" thing for social media anymore.

I suppose Facebook became popular because it took the 'friends' approach, so there's probably less hostility than on other social media.

My Facebook got hacked at a certain point, but from what I can see it's essentially the same messages on his Twitter as on his Facebook. It kind of looks like it's just a selection of his tweets on Facebook. It doesn't look like he does Facebook separately.

Stephen doesn't have any personal involvement with the Facebook page so content for that is added by staff.

I found two extremely active Buffy the Vampire Slayer message boards, so there are those of us who still prefer message boards like the SKMB over Facebook. I know I sure do ......

I have only been here for a few weeks, but just want to say this is by far one of the nicest place I have discovered on the Internet. I've shied away from message boards because they can be really nasty places, so it was such a wonderful surprise to find a really vibrant and smart and respectful community on SKMB. I can hardly fathom the work that goes into running/making SKMB great, so my heartfelt thanks to those who do! Really looking forward to more conversations on here.

:m_adore: Hey - hope you like emojis :m_bigwink:(I'll try to limit myself to just a few)

Yes - what you say is so true - I have occasionally landed on an online forum when searching for something and I was appalled at how much hatred seemed to be expressed there - not showing any respect for each other or using profanity to demean others.

Our moderators are ever vigilant and will let you know if you get out of line :uh-uh::a11:

This place helped me get through a bad time back in 2013 and I'm grateful for the help and advice I've received here - it really is a special place.

You took the words right out of my mouth! Everything is so mellow and nice around here, which is a rare thing on the internet. :joyous:
