This movie is a visually stunning masterpiece. Darren Arnofsky is an artist who can provoke the living daylights out of you. Jennifer Lawrence is one of the best actresses of all time. Although horror movies rarely get much attention from the Academy, I wouldn't be surprised if Jennifer was nominated for another Oscar for her performance in this one. Javier Bardem is a passionate actor who puts absolutely everything into his roles. The suspense in this movie is gripping from the moment the doctor steps foot in that house. I was pleasantly surprised, enthralled and horrified all at the same time.

Glad you enjoyed it. Now, tell me using spoilers, what you think was going on.

What was the powder drink she was always drinking when things were getting a bit timey wimey wibbly wobbly? Do you think him was God? Mother, Mary? Why did HIM need their love to start again? It was sort of like THe Dark Tower, ka is a wheel and everything started all over again. If Michelle Pfieffer hadn't broke the previous "heart" "love" whatever you want to call it, would all of this come to pass? So many visuals to follow, I will watch this again when it comes to Netflix or wherever just so I can look at all those scenes. To choreograph all of that had to have taken months of practice.

I think sometimes writers and artists get so wrapped up in their work, and they think they owe a duty to their fans who put that steak on their table. In this movie,
the poet got carried away. He put his wife on the back burner and inadvertently sacrificed his child in the end.
By the way, only in a film would a poet ever live in a mansion like that one and have a stay-at-home wife. I've written over 200 poems in my life, and I've never made a dime from any of them.

I read somewhere that a crazy fan once visited Stephen King at his home, and Stephen acted as honorably as he could. I believe the man was a hardened criminal who just got out of jail. I can't find any articles using Google. I believe Joe mentioned this once in an interview many years ago. He also had a stalker from the Czech Republic.

If I had a dime for every time I've said that... :)

Dana Jean I still haven't gone to see it. I also haven't read the spoiler. My son went to see it and he said it's not for me. Hmph! He said it's too gruesome and disturbing for me. That won't stop me, I just haven't had the time. But after seeing that picture of Jennifer Lawrence as the Sacred Heart, I think I'm understanding it better.

THat was well written. It does give every viewer a different message. It just all depends on the shoes you've walked in all your life. How a person has been shaped and molded since birth.

I'm fascinated by it all.
Deej - did you catch this from the aritcle?? It's why the sounds affected you so.:O_O:

Even the sounds of the ravaged house — like creaking floorboards — are her voice, digitally manipulated.

I admit, I read all the spoilers and while I probably won't go to the theater, I do want to see this eventually.

Yes! I knew there was a reason that the sounds were so much a character unto themselves.

I'm sad to say I still haven't gone to see it. I'm losing my nerve. I know I'm a wienie. You'd think being an avid Stephen King fan, I would be able to handle disturbing and gruesome. But sometimes an image gets in my head and won't get out (that guy standing in the corner of the cellar in The Blair Witch Project still bothers me). Only movies do that. When I'm reading I can control what it looks like. But I really want to discuss it. And I'm all about religious metaphors and imagery. Heaving a heavy sigh.

That guy standing in the corner in Blair Witch Project still gets hairs standing on my neck even now...

Sweetheart- he wasn't standing in the corner he was floating. His shadow doesn't reach his feet so he's not touching the ground. Now try to sleep....

My husband thought the same - boring! I was sleeping with the lights on until he came to bed forever after that movie. And my son tells me I really shouldn't go see mother! or IT. But my sister says IT didn't really scare her that much. So I don't know still. I'm such a chicken.

IT isn't scary. But it is good. If you've read the book, you'll be fine. But mother!, yeah, that's freaky deaky.
