As a newbie, unsure if this will make the cut, but have to try. First off, I haven't read everything Mr. King has written, but I do love The Running Man (yes, I saw the movie first, loved that as well & yes, I am an Arnold fan). I am a huge fan of Mr. King's prolific writing; I guess the beauty of dedicating one's life to an his/her artistic purpose. I'd love to do that, but my going is slow for a variety of reasons. Working at a public library in Cleveland, I see Mr. King's new releases arrive all the time, and know the public absolutely love Stephen King (books & movies) because I have ordered and reordered anything I could via Ingram & Midwest tapes. Stephen King is a guaranteed circulation. Anyways, I am shooting big with this post because my motive for joining this forum is to seek advice from Mr. King and the wisdom of those that have written in this forum. I am a poet that self-publishes creative crap (me being humble). Question: how would one go about getting their book made into a movie? Any steps to take? Can I mail a book? Do I need to transcribe my poetry to movie script writing (like for Amazon)? Basically where to start. A side note: I love how Mr. King constantly has cameos in movies based on his books; so cool to see. Thank you all so much for your time. I think I may go watch some Murder, She Wrote Season 5 (my 11 year old got my wife and I hooked.)

I used to work at a public library at Stephen King's books were the most borrowed (this is the early 1990's). Funnily, I don't know if it was because of the genre, but more men borrowed King books than women. I was at Swansea Library in Lake Macquarie about three years ago and they had this exhibition of King books, plus they had next to his some of Joe Hill's books which was a nice touch. Swansea library is the best library I've ever been to, big glass windows that looked over the sea. I read the latest Fortean Times magazine with the thing about the Changeling on the cover and inside there was an advertisement about a lady who joined an onling creative writing course and now she's a published author of Lord Whimsey like stuff. I don't know how anyone, be them musicians or artists or writers can drink alcohol or take other substances and still function productively. I don't get how a guy like David Bowie can say he couldn't remember two years of his life and still come out with brilliant albums. Same with writers.

I don't know much but will offer some words anyway.

You want to make a movie of your poetry/prose, if I understood correctly. I think you should write a screen treatment and shop it around. Be careful to mark your work as your own prior to doing so. Another option, seeing we're quickly moving forward with technology, is to produce it yourself. With all of the digital electronics out there everyone in the world now has opportunity to access and create, in their own recording and/or movie studios. Good luck and all the best! mal
