I just finished reading Mr. Mercedes (a little late to the game) and just have to mention a number of coincidences. I grew up on the West side of Cleveland, Ohio. Both my sets of Grandparents lived in the same town we did. My maternal grandmother was Elizabeth (nick-name Betty) Wharton. My maternal grandparents lived in a high-rise tower on the Lake Erie Gold Coast (just west of downtown Cleveland). They always drove Mercedes Benz autos. It was surreal when I started reading the book...of course none of the events in the book happened to me, but the coincidences were freaky.

Yeah, I'm trying to think of any other Ohio connections. There was a mention or two of Alabama (my stomping ground) in The Green Mile and I believe the short story Bad Little Kid. There are a few others but I'm drawing a blank.

Yo. Welcome.
It's always cool when he mentions places you know. There were a lot of Kentucky towns close to me that he wrote about in Ur, and it does make you feel like he's been nearby and wrote the story just for you.
BTW, do butterflies have noses?
In Lisey's Story didn't Scott get shot at the college in Bowling Green, Kentucky?
I think a minor character was mentioned in The Stand that lived in Kentucky.

Welcome Butterflynose - what a cool screen name! Interesting connection with your family and Mr. Mercedes and SK! I can't recall Memphis being in an SK book - anyone know? My memory is not the best. I am thrilled he named a character Holly!

My small shout out from the master is in Duma Key. He talks about macaroni art. I sent Marsha a singing nun portrait done in macaroni. It was interactive. If you pushed a button on it, it sang "Dominique, nique, nique," the french version, the first stanza. I know Stephen pushed the button.

There was a whole story behind it, but needless to say, I also sent Glenn Chadbourne a macaroni Doug Graves. They both were hysterical and very good!

This story has too much awesomeness for me to take in at once (plz, no twss) but Stephen mashing the button...that's hilarious. I actually would love to hear the whole story.
