....I thought the first episode was, for the most part-very well done and what liberties were taken are inconsequential so far....the only thing I found completely unnecessary was the masturbation scene on the stairs.....I'm not a prude by any stretch, but left to the imagining would have been just as effective....

Man I finally watched the first episode and thought it was fantastic. I already like it much more than The Mist series. Although I always pictured Bill Hodges as a kind of square, clean cut, distinguished looking older fella. But by 10 minutes in I was buying into the character. And Brady is a creepy looking kid. Great casting and great first episode. I'm excited to see more.

I loved it!! I haven't read the books yet (but I bought them), so I can't compare them to the mini-series. I could have done without the mother/son love scene and subsequent masturbation scene, but it must be relevant.

Hey - did you all recognize Mother? She was in Roadhouse. Whatshername.

Yes the incestuous stuff was a big theme in the first book and played a big part in Brady's growing mental dysfunction.

EDIT: Holy crap, that IS the lady from Road House! I would have never noticed that. Good catch Holly!

I watched the first episode last night and loved it :) I have really missed Hodges and Gleeson portrays him perfectly. All the characters are portrayed perfectly. It's like the director actually read the novel. My only semi-disappointment was that Jerome lost his jive. I thought Jerome's jive in the novel was hilarious :)

Y'know the future episode scenes shown after the episode's end... Is that Holly sitting next to Jerome at the computer?

Seems like I remember quite a few people here taken aback by it when reading the books and we are used to SK and his ways. Imagine how that would play to a mass audience on TV? Not well, I imagine.

......the "jive" would be an absolute dumpster fire in front of a large audience.....

As most know I am a stickler for old school. Proper casting, keeping to the icon, etc..

I am glad to see this in it's raw form. I understand the aspect of " projecting to a new audience". But I feel of the art I have come to admire has become blurred in the new following search.

This is refreshing, and I truly hope it continues.
