You're showing your age--that rule went out years ago. ;;D
Tell me about it. I still believe in opening the door for women, giving my coat to a woman when she’s cold, and buying dinner. Call me Methuselah. :)

I was recently at a dinner function. Outside stood a young couple. It was cold. The guy had on a suit and tie and the girl had on a nice dress with spaghetti strings (they’re still called that, aren’t they?). She was shivering. I walked over to the guy, tapped him on the shoulder, and motioned for him to come over to speak to me (far enough so his date wouldn’t hear me). I said... “Dude, you date is shivering. Put you coat around her. Be a gentleman.” At first he looked at me like I was from Mars. Then looked at his date. Looked back at me and said “You’re right.” He walked over and put his coat around her. She looked at me and mimicked “Thank you.”

That's just common courtesy not fashion rules, and not about gender stereotyping if you both get to the door at about the same time. Now if you'd said, "don't worry your pretty little head, I'll get that door for you," that might be a different story, Methuselah. ;)

I've always called them spaghetti straps but maybe in PA they're called strings. Either way, I know what you're talking about. I wouldn't be being honest if I didn't say I've dressed inappropriately for the weather simply for the sake of fashion in my younger days but now that I'm older and wiser and don't really give a flip, it's my opinion that's one rule women need to get over. Nice of you to point out to her date that she was cold and could use some help staying warm, though.

My youngest is that way with fashion, and never dresses appropriately for the weather. She tells me I don't understand. I say I do understand... you're a moron. Recently she went to a homecoming dance. They were double dating with another couple. Both girls had on these high heeled shoes with really long pencil thin heels (if you can even call them heels). Watching them walk in those shoes was comical. And I let them know it. Till my dying day I'll never understand why women put themselves through that with those torture devices. When they got back from the dance I asked how long they were there before they took them off. They said about 2 minutes. And some call ME obtuse? :umm:

I believe the proper term is stilettos. I have a different term that I won't repeat here. My younger daughter, the fashionista, wears them, even to her baby shower when she was 8 months pregnant. She wore them throughout the entire shower--about 2 hours at least. It hurts my feet just to look at them.
