My favourite movie of 2017, by a massive margin!

I am a big fan of the IT story, and have loved the miniseries for a long time and Tim Curry's Pennywise. I am also particularly fond of Eddie and Stan as the Losers, as they are true Losers, if you know what I mean.

I remember being in two minds about Bill Skarsgard's Pennywise the moment I saw him, but then the trailer came out months later. I didn't like the repeated "you'll float too!" statement in it, but I was piqued by the setting and look of it, even though I still didn't quite know all the new faces.

Then I finally saw the movie, nervously for the horror scenes, and loved it! I must've seen it FIVE times altogether, and am really impatient for the upcoming Blu-ray. I've already seen clips of the movie on YouTube, I'm so impatient.

I really like the new depictions of most of the characters: Eddie is my favourite, followed by Stan, and Richie is really funny, and the banter between motormouth Eddie and trashmouth Richie is a highlight. Stan, I sympathise with, simply because of how Pennywise is brutal to him in particular, although the others have trauma or injuries, especially Ben and Bev. Pennywise, in particular, is very scary and very well depicted and really comes across as a shapeshifter in human form, but he convincingly loses that humanity when the teeth or the deadlights come out. IT's secondary forms, namely the painted lady and the leper, are effective, especially the lady, which made me scared of the dark.

These child protagonists and 80s settings also kindled my interest in Stranger Things, another show I've come to love because of this movie. What works with this child cast is how well they get on together behind the scenes, it really helps in their on-screen chemistry, and this movie works as well as Stand by Me, Poltergeist and The Goonies for that blend of childhood and horror/danger.

Yep, I really love this movie and hope that Chapter 2 lives up to expectations, although it will be a long time before that comes. I only hope Muschietti doesn't mess it up.
