As a newer SK fan, I couldn’t wait to read Doctor Sleep before the movie came out. I’m super excited for the movie and the book was an awesome read. I loved that it started with Danny’s rock bottom and was about his recovery. I loved the relationship with Abra and the fact that he made friends along his journey. The relation that was revealed totally surprised me and I loved how fitting it was where it could have come off forced. My only real complaint is I felt the final battle was a bit weak and I never felt they were in true danger. The stakes just seemed low. I also didn’t like the sentiment at the end of the battle when a certain ghost appears: cheesy. But overall, one of my favorites so far... but I have a long way to go!

I agree about the low-stakes ending, kind of like sitting through episodic television of yesteryear: no main characters were ever truly in peril. I didn't think for a minute that King
would let Danny die. Also, the fact that Danny and Abra are related is the main spoiler, not how they are related, LOL.
Interesting take on this novel, though. I look forward to reading your other reviews. :encouragement:

I picked up the book the other day at Walgreens. I got to page 5 so far, I just don't have the time to read like I used to which is upsetting. I used to finish a book a week before the internet but these days, its like a book a year. Thankfully, it isn't a door stopper so once I settle in and get some solid time to read, I'll get through a big chunk of it. As for the film, going to try to hold off on seeing it until I finish the book, even though I have to wonder how similar they are. Firestarter, the book and the film, nearly identical, The Mist, quite a few differences.

Why is it even called "doctor sleep" if that barely has anything to do at all with the story?

Originally it was titled "Rose the Hat, and All That," but cooler editorial heads prevailed.

....if you've read the novel, you should have answered your own question....
