So, some of you people here have me some great reading recommendations the other week. I was looking for fantasy literature similar to the Dark Tower. Admittedly I have never read any Tolkien, but I picked up a copy last week at a used book shop, and I am almost finished with it.

Reading this novel you can see where Sai King drew so much inspiration for his Dark Tower series (which is IMO, the greatest literary accomplishment of any author, hands down). He isn't ripping off Tolkien at all, but it is so wonderful to read the same thing that King read and drew inspiration from. The scenery. The forests. The inhabitants of the forests. The quest itself. You can totally see how this novel could inspire the DT. I would suggest this novel to anyone who loves the DT series as much as I do.

...I see your point, but the inspiration for the novel was not only that BUT- Robert Browning's poem, "Childe Roland to the Dark Tower Came," and the "spaghetti Westerns" of the '70s. (taken from the SK website)....
