This is just trippy how it works. In light of the music thread, I was bemoaning the fact that I don't have a real live BHT&M CD - I have them on my ipod, and I stream Pandora at work, but nothing in the car. So I went to Goodwill in search of an ugly sweater (got invited to one of those Christmas parties) and I was thinking: wouldn't it be great to find a BHT&M cd. And guess what? I'm for real: Beautiful World - right there, nary a scratch on it for $2.99. Also: Dreamcatcher & Everythings Eventual in hardcover, and the entire Green Mile series in paperback - under $9 for all. go me!

When I was a kid, my favorite TV show was The Man from U.N.C.L.E., which ran from 1964 to 1968 (an historical fact which means that at least 50% of those reading this have never heard of the TV series). The show, along with a good many others, came via the popularity of the original James Bond (Sean Connery, of course. The only real James Bond) movie series. Napoleon Solo, played by Robert Vaughn, was very cool, as "secret agents" always are, and I worshipped him. But, I worshipped his gun more. I actually tried to make out of wood my own copy of The Man from U.N.C.L.E. gun. The reason I couldn't finish it was that I got hung up in details, such as needing for the magazine to be detachable and fit into the pistol grip, as do all semi-auto magazines.

Anyway, apparently I wasn't the only obsessed fan…

I remember it. And for some reason, this song always reminds me of the show. It wasn't the opening theme or anything, but it just reminds of it.

Hey Holly - way to go - you got a thread going under "Needful Things" - eventually this place will be similar to the old board in that most of the categories will have at least a few entries in them.

I think I'll post a couple of quotes from Leland Gaunt of the book "Needful Things" cuz he was quite delightful (a real sick sense of humour, that one):

Leland Gaunt: Oh yes, we're having fun now.

Leland Gaunt: The young carpenter from Nazareth? I know him well. Promising young man. He died badly.

Buster: I just killed my wife. Is that bad?
Leland Gaunt: Hey, these things happen.

Leland Gaunt: SHOOT THEM!
[Alan Pangborn fires his pistol in the air instead]
Leland Gaunt: OH YOU WUSSY!

Stephen has 2 of these situations where the antagonist wants a character to do his bidding, and that character doesn't. This one you just pointed out, and Billy Soames in Storm of the Century. Billy doesn't kill Kat Withers, and Linoge is furious and calls him a COWARD!

And I'm sure there is more examples!
