Ok, total techno dinsosaur here. Appears 2018 is off to a grand start- one dead TV set. Older model 19".

Budget is a big factor, but I would like to consider a 32"-- older eyes.
Also one that will allow as steaming device, as the cable TV cost has to go bye bye.
No idea about terminology- LED/ Smart TV/ HD etc.

What would you suggest? Thank you.

I have a 55” TCL TV and love it. Just ordered another one through Walmart. Very user-friendly, great picture and sound, inexpensive. About $135 on Walmart.com.
That's what I replaced my old Hitachi with, that exact one you described Danie. No complaints at all. Great picture and sound, and the built in Roku device is very handy for Netflix, HULU, etc.

A built in Roku device sounds nifty :) Anything that prevents having to connect cables from a component to the tv is great news :) I'm usually good at reading instructions but I could not get my DVD player connected properly to the TV. I had to have the direcTV guy show me what I was doing wrong.

I ended up closing my dish account and signing up for a service called "Sling" after I got the Roku TV. It's been nice, half the price of Dish and I'm still able to get all my football games which is the only time I really watch anything on network. We're all able to use Sling on our phones, iPads, and I really haven't missed Dish. For local channels I bought a couple of HD antennas and they've worked out just fine for local news and weather and it's free. The Roku TV is hella-fast as far as wireless goes, very rarely, if ever have buffering issues. Amazon Prime, Netflix, Hulu, all come already installed and there's a BUNCH of cool channels you can download for free, martial arts channels, 24-7 news, all kinds of interesting channels. I'd never heard of TCL before but I have a Roku device in my bedroom and it's always been very reliable so I took a chance on the TV and don't really have anything bad to say about it.

Thank you all for the input. This is awesome information.
....look around/shop around....and you might even consider a rent-to-own if that's a bit easier on your budget....I know you end up paying more in the long run, but it's an alternative....and many of the chain stores run specials all the time, so finding an affordable 32 incher with your choice of "options" shouldn't break you......

I'm glad to hear you say this. I've been considering Sling TV for a while. I'll need an HD antenna to pick up Tar Heel basketball, and was concerned that it might not work. Ditching cable will save me about $80 a month.
