Mr. King needs to warn his readers up front that some of the content in the book might be disturbing. This is a sad state of affairs since he has always towed the line when it came to violence against children. If a child was killed, it was dealt with in a low key manner. But Doctor Sleep breaks with tradition and I have to say it sickens me to the core. I love the dark side but torturing children is just plain WRONG.

Welcome to the board! At the risk of sounding brash, King's middle name is disturbing. Honestly, I can think of several instances where children were tortured in his books. It and Black House, to name a couple. 'Tweren't anything low-key about either. There's more along the same line as those, but they are two prime examples. Kind of think that if you're picking up one of his books, being disturbed is a given. It's not like you picked up a Golden Book or something. :m_scary:

King has written about violence against children, even torture, since the beginning. He's also written about the resilience of children. You do realize you're reading fiction, right? No children were actually tortured. It's ok.
Maybe try reading Laura Ingalls Wilder.
Welcome.

Welcome! :watermelon:

It's a work of fiction. Many things SK has written have probably crossed the line for some people some where at some time. It's going to happen when one writes about the "dark side." Women, animals, children, gays, straights, etc. We're all subject to SK's whims. It's fiction.

Then we better scrap Little Red Riding Hood, too. How about the Brother's Grimm?

When you start putting warning labels on literature, the reasons for doing it will never stop. Today it's children, tomorrow grandmothers, and the next time, invalids. What next, confiscate the offending books, make a pile, douse with gasoline and strike a match?
