That's interesting. I am a bit familiar with that area, it's about two counties directly south of where I grew up (Pike County, AR). Lafayette County borders Louisiana if I remember correctly. I have several relatives a couple of counties to the east of there in Ashley County.
Well, Walnut Hill isn't as cool as Silent Hill, but it's just as scary.

Well, I read the preview of UNBURY CAROL, and to be perfectly honest, I think I would like it. It very much reminded me of the movie Premature Burial in what I could get from the little snippet I could read. The writing was good. The story intriguing. Yeah, I'm going to read it.

So Josh Malerman and wife/girlfriend -- I will be purchasing the book as I think it shows great promise to be an interesting story.

okey doke -- i purchased the hardcover edition of UNBURY CAROL yesterday, came home and threw a Brodart on that beautiful cover (love it!) and now I'll read the story. Still haven't read the bad review that prompted the exchange, I want to read the book first myself and get my feelings about it -- then I'll read the reviews.

The only thing that would make it better would be an autograph in the front!

About reviews.....Of course they can be bad or harsh. If the reviewer thinks so he should say so. A good review should point out both strong and weak points in a book be it plot, character, motivation, style, longivity, ending or whatever but without spoilers. That is, in my experience. a rarity. Much too often it seems as if the reviewer has just glanced through the book, written down an acceptable amount of words and collected his or her check. Any Artist, whatever you do must expect harsh reviews. You cant take it personally. Another problem in the reviewer business i experienced is the tendency to be nice to friends and colleuges in the writerbusiness. Which makes the review very uninteresting to read. Some reviews i've read i have even questioned if they have read the book and not just the blurb on the backside.

I place very little importance on reviews and I apologize to anyone that writes reviews. The professional ones are way over my head, again apologies. They make me feel like I missed half the book or wasn't thinking enough while reading. It doesn't matter if it's books, movies or TV, if it's interesting to me then that's all that matters. BTW, I recently reread Grapes of Wrath and I love the characters, but the alternating chapters about the countryside were a bit boring.
