I have never been a fan of SK. I tried reading a few of his books years ago. I did get through "Rose Madder" and really did not enjoy it.

I can, however, appreciate him as a writer and completely respect his talents. I am completely enjoying "On Writing." I plan to order "Secret Windows."

I want to read more of his works, but, to be honest, I can't handle scary books or movies anymore. My imagination is overactive and I scare myself enough that I don't need anyone's help. I used to read scary books and watch scary movies. After I had children, I just couldn't do it anymore. Now that I live in a 135 year old house, it is out of the question.

Could you recommend some of his works that might be more suspense or thriller without being horror/supernatural?

Thank you!

me. I'm not a huge fan of any of the first 4 Bachmann books.

Dolores Claiborne is the first one I'd recommend for someone who isn't interested in horror, but appreciates a good story. Colorado Kid. Joyland. Blaze. Different Seasons is 3/4 completely not supernatural (only the last story has that element, and it's an almost ethereal type of supernatural, not ugly). Mr. Mercedes. Full Dark, No Stars is dark (he didn't lie), but not supernatural and all of the the stories therein are wonderfully written.

A few to set you on your way, I guess :)

Full Dark, No Stars? (really?) - I thought that one was pretty scary when I read it last summer for the second time.

Hearts in Atlantis is nice, as is 11/22/63

They weren't supernatural stories, though :)
Okay - that is true.

I guess I should welcome the original poster!

The Green Mile.

And dig up his novella - Rita Hayworth and the Shawshank Redemption - or just watch the movie - Shawshank Redemption.

Perfect book ends.

Same with Lisey's Story and Bag of Bones - but BoB veers a little more in the horror category than you may be able to handle.
