Hello all,

So i just finished reading "IT" the other week end. Its the first "horror" book i've read and the first SK book as well.

I found it brilliant, the way he portrayed the friendship between the "losers" is as good as it gets. I've ready many books as a adult, but this book truly gave me that feeling of being a kid, and reading a good book when your imagination goes nuts and all the good stuff:)

So that being said, what do you guys recommend i should pick up next? I'm gonna stick with SK for a while, and i was thinking maybe the Dark Towers series? I'm not interested in The Shining, saw the movie and i honestly didn't really like it (you can bring the pitchforks now )

Yes, agree with Spidey - 'The Shining' is a wonderful read, (forget about the movie) one of my firsts, along with 'Salems Lot'.

The Dark Tower is a Journey, and will change everything. Maybe wait a bit for that until you see his other works. I did. Took me a years to finally read the series. But boy o boy.

Perhaps try some of his novellas like 'Different Seasons' It contains 'Shawshank' and 'The Body'
(Stand By Me)

Or if you want a really good taste, go for the short stories as in 'Night Shift'. Excellent.

Happy reading!

My Holy SK Trinity - It, The Shining, Salem's Lot. They are must-reads. Somewhere after that comes The Talisman, Night Shift, and The Dead Zone. I'm a bit of a contrarian when it comes to the Dark Tower series. I agree with the idea that you should have a few more SK works under your belt before taking that journey.

Welcome!

If you are a serious reader,by all means go with the Dark Tower next, but understand it is a big undertaking..well worth it,and not a problem, just saying, that you will be tied up with it for a period of time...I agree with Not Nadine, maybe start off with another novel like Diff Seasons or Night Shift, just to get another view of how SK writes, then maybe another novel like The Stand or Salem's Lot before jumping into the dark tower..but it is all good,it depends on the individual, and however you decide to do it is okay lots of great stuff in the SK universe..

The Stand is a great suggestion. And a must read.

Hi Nr8! To my dismay, you're among good people. Listen, try Salem's Lot. It's a great read, and a nice introduction to Stephen King's work. Fun and scary. Very enjoyable. The Stand is great. And you might like Cujo. SK was at the top of his game at this period. Not that he's ever slipped too badly. Christine is good. Night Shift is probably his best short story collection. Welcome!

Thanks for the welcome and the great suggestions guys. Gonna go later book shopping, and pick something...not sure what yet :D
I like to go to a thrift shop like Value Village and look through their books - you can find some good hardcovers and/or paperbacks there - guess I was lucky in the past but lately there seems to be less horror; maybe they're just going through a dry spell.
