Most of my books I have found at Goodwill, garage sales, and ebay...all gently used from smoke and pet free environments ~ I'm sure:angel:!! I have received a few hardbacks new as gifts, which is great but there's just something to be said about bending the spine of a paperback that's just so gratifying to me! I should issue a national warning though...which is, if I find a hardback copy of The Gunslinger, The Drawing of the Three, or The Wastelands...all which are books I need to complete my collection I will throw a massive scream and dancing fit the likes of which will scare/scar young children and the elderly!!

A brand new book is a lovely thing.
However, an old 1st edition is a true thing of beauty for me.

I purchased a 1st edition of The Great & Secret Show (turned up today as it goes) and I love that old musky library type of scent.
It evokes a lot of memories of sitting in my Grandma's house, choosing my next read from her (fairly formidable) collection.

Hardback books are damn expensive, and since I prefer them in most situations I tend to shop secondhand a LOT (as an author, I shouldn't admit or encourage that, but whatever. I'm also a mom with a big, reading family and $ doesn't grow on trees). New books are for favorite authors or if I find a great deal on Amazon/B&N.

As far as new or used, I have to straddle the fence here and say 'both'. (Majority of my book collection is used).

I love my Revival, Joyland, Doctor Sleep, Mr. Mercedes, The Wind Through the Keyhole, recent slipcover Carrie, and even the 11/22/63 Andy bought me in Mansfield but the only truly brand new book of SK's that I owned previously was a hardcover Dreamcatcher believe it or not.

I only started collecting his books since I joined this message board.

Previously would just clean up my house and sell or give away books - I figured I could always borrow books from the library!

oh yeah - and one of the members here mailed me the big pop-up book of The Girl Who Loved Tom Gordon - this one I treasure very much!

Would you mind reading Floating Dragon first? I read it a million years ago and don't remember anything about it. I think I remember liking it but I'm afraid to read reviews because reviews often contain spoilers. If you like it, I'll reread it :)

I have about 8 books on my priority to read list, and a honest estimate of when I would be willing to read Floating Dragon is late March.

I buy all of the King books new (unless I run across a nice copy of one of his older books at a thrift store or used book store, then I'll snatch it up) but most of my other authors that I like I will try to find at a thrift store or used book store. I don't like it when an older book smells musty- if I try to read it, it gives me a headache big-time!

Musty is an indication that it is possibly contaminated with book "creepy crawlies"

I have found that if it does have a musty odor you can pop the book (minus the dustjacket) in the microwave for about 30 seconds and it will help to kill the bacteria that is causing the odor.

I like both a lot of my books are used but I love to buy books in a local bookstore or via my kindle.
Most new SK are downloaded to my kindle. But since Mr. Mercedes came out as a paperback I am tempted to buy it.
