I agree. HBO would be great. For Dark Tower too. The only thing is that HBO might want a lot of nudity in it. I haven't read Game of Thrones, but was there a lot of nudity there? Hard to imagine...

In the Game of Thrones books a lot of the characters spent a good deal of time in bordellos, so yeah, most of the nudity in the show came from the books. They could probably tone in down a little in the shows but they seemed to have embraced it wholeheartedly.

I'd rather see a brand-new TV mini-series for The Stand than a feature-length film. If PBS and Julian Fellowes were to get ahold of it, we'd have a bang-up production.

PBS would no doubt give us a quality production, though they would probably try to appeal to the upper crust viewers by giving everyone British accents and calling it Jane Austen's The Stand.

With all the things they drag out into sequel territory it surprises me that they want to try and condense something that could realistically benefit from sequels into one film.

Paranormal Activity, gets 5 sequels while a 1200 page book is getting 3 hours??

I'm confused........ That said, so long as the film works I'll get over it. Obviously alot will be left out but if it turns out to be a good stand alone movie on it's own merits, I'll be satisfied

But the Paranormal Activity films are less one story and a lot of sequels even though they may feature returning characters are basically standalone films.

The Stand in separate films would be like Lord of the Rings, the first film (and the second if there would be three, etc.) wouldn't have an ending. That's more of a risk, because they're obliged to make more after the first, where something like Paranormal Activity can be left alone if it isn't successful (anymore). The risk Lord of the Rings took doesn't always pay off - look at something like Golden Compass which never got the sequels.

I'm more confused by only three hours, because for It they are talking about two films.

Sorry. No, I'm actually NOT confused by the three hours. The makers of the new Stand apparently DON'T want to take that risk of multiple films, while the It makers DO.

The confusion is more: HOW are you gonna do The Stand in three hours. Wouldn't it feel rushed.

Anyway, I'm not really holding my breath whether the new It/The Stand or Dark Tower ever DO happen, because there's been talk about them for so long and they shift makers constantly, but very little seems to happen. I sort of feel Dark Tower may in the end, but probably tv, not cinema. But it's hard to tell for sure with Hollywood.

I dont get it. 3 Hour movie will be as risky as a trilogy. Its tough to get people to sit still and pay attention to anything for that long.

The Matrix trilogy and LtORs didnt really have strong ending points between movies. I think if The Stand was done well, it could captivate average Joes without wrapping everything up in a neat bow.

HBO - 2 Seasons should be perfect

What do you guys think of the announcement that Warner Bros are making The Stand into a new single movie?

To be completely honest, firstly, im just glad weve got someone so keen to work on this and that it isn't Ben Affleck lol. IMO, I reckon that this would make an amazing trilogy or even 2 movies (if wrote and directed properly) ............... A single movie ? Too much will be cut out of this. Such a shame because so much could be done with it ....... just my humble opinion peeps x

I would watch it but I sure won't hold my breath I just don't think that a 3 hour movie would do the book/story/ or SK justice. There is a lot to cover and I don't think 3 hours is enough time w/o cutting the story into pieces. I wouldn't mind a tv show if a proper movie couldn't be made.

I could see doing it as a trilogy, but one movie, even at three hours, just ain't gonna cut it. I liked the mini-series back when it first came out but now it just makes me cringe when I try to watch it. I've heard for years about them re-doing The Stand and had hoped it could be done on HBO or somesuch so that the story could be told in the time it needed and uncensored. Oh well, remakes will never die, so maybe by the time I'm 90 or so they'll finally do it right.
I agree. It should be done on HBO or Starz. I like how Starz is doing Diana Gabaldon's Outlander book. It is a long book too, and they are filming it over the whole season. That would work for The Stand......I don't want to miss any of the character development either.

Director Josh Boone announces on Kevin Smith's Hollywood Babble On - The Stand now to be Four Movies!!!!!!!!

Interview here - SModcast | Hollywood Babble-On Bonus: Babble on Hollywood: Josh Boone: The Fault In Our Stand - starts at the One hour and 20 minute mark

Note - foul language abounds so definitely not work friendly or for those turned off by such language.

First reaction - Uh, wow!

Second reaction - HELLS YEAH!!!!!!!!!!

Third reaction - after listening to that Kevin Smith interview -

OMFG!

Boone so gets not just The Stand but every Stephen King story!!! Boone also takes special care to note that The Stand is not a story that can be translated into a bunch of strung together set pieces. To him The Stand is a story about characters and the audience getting into the heads of those characters.

Can't wait! Can't wait! Can't wait!
