Hello everyone. I haven't done the "message board" thing in quite some time, but I felt compelled to. I'm a long time Stephen King fan. "The Shining" was the first book I read when I was around 13, and I've been hooked ever since. I'm originally from Long Island New York, but have lived in Washington state since 1984. I was stationed at the Bangor Naval Submarine base, in Washington, for 20 years in the US Navy before I retired in 2003.
I've been in Rhode Island for a school related to my job, and yesterday I decided to hop in my rental car and drive to Bangor to see Mr. King's house. I had wanted to do this on trips in the past, however never made the time. Having just finished "End of Watch," and preparing to embark on "Sleeping Beauties," (which my wife purchased for my birthday tomorrow), I really wanted to just stop by. I had seen some pictures of the fence before, but I was really glad I made the five hour drive from Newport to see it for myself. I met some other people, and took a few pictures. The most novel thing was, plugging in my iPhone to the rented Chevy Cruz and asking Siri "Directions to Stephen King's house" and it took me straight to his doorstep. I admit Mr. King might find that a bit creepy. I admit I am not up on the current King news, so I wasn't sure if he even lived there anymore. However, stopping at the gas station at the end of his block to fill up, the attendant there informed me that he does still own the house, and in point of fact had been there just the day before (Saturday, 10/22) to get gas! He went on to describe how well like Mr. King is by the community, and how much he supports the community. I am an amateur musician (guitar, bass), so my "fantasy" would be to sit with Mr. King, not necessarily to discuss his works, but to just jam on guitar. I particularly enjoy when he references musical works and lyrics in his books. It's always something I recognize and love. Because "all that ****'s written in E." Thank you for allowing me to ramble on.

I've never been there but hopefully we can all meet up there next summer!
