We'll have to agree to disagree on this one. I say it is extremely optimistic to think she would be safe without him, once it was known she was pregnant.

I like these theories and there are a lot of interesting points made here!

I really like the theory of 19 having to do with it being his 19th go around, but I am so freshly stuck on 19 (things going/being 19) I feel that the number has some sort of meaning outside each individual turn of the wheel.

Now I am wondering if he would meet the same individuals or not during different journeys. My understanding of Ka and Ka-tets makes me feel that they would all be connected in one way or another, despite different 'run-throughs.' But then we have the issue with 1999 and the Keystone world not being able to go backward. Here is my theory on that:

How many times must Roland go up the tower? We do not know. But we do know the number of beams and their guardians; I speculate that in order to save the beam that they did (the path of the Bear in this instance) that beam is tied to the Keystone world (the beam they are saving) and that is the reason it cannot go backward. The turtle sits at the opposite end, hence the skoldpadda having such a great effect in Keystone. Perhaps where Susan, Eddie, and Jake meet again is actually the world of the Turtle on the other end.
So what I'm working to here, is that each time Roland goes through he is saving a different beam and the world tied to that specific beam cannot be made to go backwards. Perhaps once all 12 beams are saved (6 but each side with each guardian) Roland will remember all his journeys.
But then the issue with that is Roland needing redemption and having the horn as a correct choice this time around, as well as
putting a limit on the number of worlds, when that should likely be limitless.
But if we look at it that way, we get a picture of Roland saving all the beams, putting the universe back together as a complete whole. Perhaps it is not that he has messed up this time around (although they do allude that) just that he is the only one who can (with the help of his Ka-Tet) save the beams in their entirety. Perhaps in each instance he goes through it, it is only 2 beams left holding up the world, but once he has saved all of them all realms will melt back together in the harmony that once existed in the tower.

Wow. That is incredibly interesting.

I need to read these books again.
