I have never read a John Grisham novel, but have seen and liked a few of the movies. I just don't like reading crime drama - or whatever you might call his genre. BUT due to this thread, I did buy Painted House today at the thrift store and am very much looking forward to reading it.

I also scored Book 2 of The Berrybender series by Larry McMurtry. I haven't read the first, but I do love this author, and after reading These is My Words, I'm totally in the mood for some more out west during the 1800s stuff.
I said the same thing...did not like crime drama until I picked up one of his novels a couple of years ago. WOW

I think you will really like Painted House. Let me know what you think.

Okay, I have to admit that I haven't read The Grapes... and so don't know what this means, nor whether my previous post made much sense. :biggrin2:
I just associate The Grapes of Wrath with Dana Jean... she, uh, might not like this actually? :Oo:
She'll love it! We're still trying to figure out what the symbolism of the turtles is tho....

Another one to try :) I really liked A Time To Kill and The Firm, but don't remember the details of any others (though I know I read a lot of them) until An Innocent Man. Playing for Pizza was godawful, so I gave up on him. It would be nice to read another strong one by him.

Yea, playing for pizza for just garbage. Don't know what happened there. I just finished the client and I liked it. 4 out of 5.

Grisham is third on my favourite list of authors. Just started to collect the hardcovers. At VV a few weeks ago they had
a 50% sale and Buy 4 get 5th Free too. Bought at least 10 of his hardcovers in very good condition for $1.50 each. Good
start to the hardcover collection.
if you don't mind can you rank in your opinion his best to least of the ones you read. my favorite is a time to kill and racketeer but I heard a painted house is awesome but havnet read it yet

Sure; as far as books go I thought 'A Time to Kill' was his best too. Then The Firm, The Brethren, The Rainmaker, The Client, Street
Lawyer,The Summons, Runaway Jury, The Appeal and The Last Juror. That's my Top Ten of what I have read.
I saw the movie 'The Rainmaker' last weekend and thought it was very good.
Haven't read the Theodore Boone books, yet. Have you and if so, what did you think of them?

The Worst: Skipping Christmas, Playing for Pizza and I didn't like A Painted House either.

Do you remember telling me the titles for the History of the Mayfair Witches? Well I spotted 2 of the 3 (paperback) on a local website
that posts books among other stuff. I called the lady but you have to buy all 60 of the paperbacks she has for sale and the other 58
are of no interest to me. She wanted $100. for the 60. She had posted several pictures and all the books are in poor condition.

MAYBE I missed it but I went through the threads and didn't see any grisham. Excellent author in my opinion. A time to kill is a classic. It was written like 25 years ago. He recently wrote a sequel to it called sycamore row. Guilty to say haven't read it yet. He's got a lot of great novels, hard to recommend just a few but I also really like The Racketeer. He was a lawyer so he writes mostly legal thrillers.
I liked the innocent man, King of torts, and the appeal to name a few
