So, friends, I am currently reading this latest offering by Ms. Roberts. This is the first book by her I have ever read...the library I work in has a large selection of her works and I'm curious about "high output" authors. So when I read the jacket blurb I had to give the novel a try myself.
I won't spoil anything, but it's looking more and more to me like Year One is a tribute to The Stand. And I don't mean that unkindly or disrespectfully; the lady knows how to keep one turning those pages! But there's the world-ending virus (I am fascinated by apocalyptic fiction), and also there is a mention of a little town named "Arnette" nestled in the narrative. I just don't think that's an accident. The survivors of the virus and the conflicts they must resolve are quite different from The Stand and will apparently take place in two more books, but the similarities are striking.
Have any of you read it, and what do you think if you did? I've actually been hunting around for interviews with her to see if the "tribute" is intentional, but so far have found nothing. However, I imagine that there are quite a few Nora Roberts fans in our little ka-tet.
