When people I know say that they didn't think that TBWP was scary, my first question to them is: 'Have you ever camped out in the woods?' Usually the answer is 'No." and I tell them that's why it doesn't scare them, that they don't know what it's like to be out there in the dark with nothing but the campfire and tent......

There is a decent movie out called "Backcountry" about an annoying yuppie couple who go on a camping trip, get lost in the woods, and eventually have a nasty encounter with a bear. There is a real creepy scene shot completely in their tent for several minutes where they hear all sorts of sounds from the outside at night. Pretty scary stuff even though the movie is not a great one.

Yeah, that's the other one. For me it's the dog, not the kid, but I can't stand it. And I can barely stand the stuff about the dog in this one. It's too sad and awful.
I agree about both Cujo and "the former Prince" from Gerald's Game. I had heard people discuss the segments written "from the dog's perspective," and I got the impression that the writing was very empathetic, but it didn't read that way to me at all. Especially the ending, not a glorious conclusion for "it." Great book aside from that, though, I'd say.
