Some version of Earth
Welcome!

I would agree with you in general, with the exception of Shawshank Redemption and The Green Mile which were both quite good in their own way

Quite true and both those movies had some stellar performances of some great actors. The Shawshank Redemption is probably one of the few exceptions in which (at least to me anyway) the movie was slightly better than the book. But the Shawshank Redemption remained relatively faithful to the original source with a few tweaks here and there.

just saw The Gunslinger (refused to see it in theaters) and as a "constant reader" for over 30 years I have to say that I was not at all pleased!! (understatement of the decade) If Stephen king authorized this farce, he should be ashamed. I re-read the entire Dark Tower series once a year as I truly believe it is the finest work Mr King has ever done. This movie was a disgrace to all King fans

It's a sequel to the book, not an adaption.

If you approach this just as a film, then I think you would enjoy it a lot more.
