I read "On Writing" a couple years ago with the idea it would help me get started writing a story I'd had rolling around in my noggin for over thirty years, but it didn't. An injury to my knee a few months ago did put me in the mind set, since I'm not one to twiddle my thumbs, to finally tell the story.
Two months and 131,563 words later it's now on paper (in a file) and while I have started on the follow-up to it, and search for an agent that will look at the work of a sixty year old seventh grade drop-out, I pulled out the dog-eared copy of "On Writing" and read it again
It meant so much more to me this time around, and will most definitely, help with trimming the story down, as I work on the second draft.
Thank you for the time you spent putting your experience and guidance down, so fledgling writers like myself can feel like we sat with you and picked your brain!

Thanks Dana Jean! Drop-outs aren't necessarily dumb, many like myself got more of an education out on the road, than we could have gotten in a classroom....and we're easily bored!
You have a diploma from the "School of Hard Knocks" - I find for me that often that is the best way to learn something :grinning:
