I started the DT series the morning the forum went dark, going into King withdrawl, I had to do something... right? I read book one in two long sittings, breaking for lunch... a quick sandwich. The writing style is much different, and I read one night until four am, but i'm retired... so?

I am currently 2/3 through DTIII. To all those who said, "You have to start..."
I tip my hat. I wii keep you posted, but I have reading to do.

Glad you decided to visit Roland's world.

Well done! You're in for quite a ride. I'm currently revisiting the series via audio-book format. I have to get started on the final volume but have been putting it off because I am enjoying the story even more the second time around and dread reaching the end. I look forward to hearing your thoughts as you progress in your reading.

I am nearing the end of III, and looking forward to IV.
I don't know if I was really lucky, or they were all that way, but my volume one was oversized, and included amazing color artwork between some of the sections. So like Giant says... I know who isnt Roland.

I'm exhausted. The bad part about being retired... if I don't have physical therapy or a doctor's appt the next morning, nothing to make me stop reading. You look up and it's three or four in the morning... but you are (always) at a good part, want to see what's in the box, hear the secret... next time you look up... its four thirty. Sigh.

You put the book down, and pick it up again with morning coffee, about eight.
Yup, its gonna be a long day. A hundred pages into book four. Lol.

...say it with me....."Idris Elba is not Roland!".......

Ok....I understand your thinking on this...when I found out who was playing Roland and who was playing the Man in Black in the movie I was like..."hmm aren't these roles reversed?" But then I said to myself. "Now I can't really say until I see it...just to be objective." I could imagine Mathew as Roland, he has the looks as described in the DT series, especially that gaunt thing lol. But I am going to wait and not be biased until I see it and how he plays him. I have read the entire series of books, twice...yes all of them 2 times..so I have my vision of Roland well defined. I just hope the film can do the books the justice they deserve..

....I say welcome!....and secondly, I think Elba is a hell of a good actor-he just doesn't fit the "template" King created.....having said that, I have dialed back my contempt on casting choices, and will judge it for what it is-an adaptation, not a faithful re-telling......

Enjoy the journey! I put off reading the series for a very long time. But then, like you, it was all I wanted to read until I made it through. I still haven't read Wind Through the Keyhole - but I have it. Just waiting. Maybe soon. We've got snow, and that book begins with a starkblast, so it would be a good time to start it.

I'm still excited about the movie. Idris is not who I imagined Roland to be, for certain, but I'll give it a try. And I'm curious about the movie.

Funny, even retired, things come up and I wasn't able to get really locked in to the book again until later in the evening last nite. That was probably a mistake, as the action was really beginning to heat up... in more ways than one. I'm 3/4 thru, so there's plenty of youthful sex, background plotting, and hints by King (breaking the forth wall and talking directly to the constant reader,) of things to come. Another evening of just a few more pages. Next I know, the evil red glow of the digital tattletale proclaimed 230am and I HAD to stop. A meeting to attend today where snoring old men are somehow considered rude. Sigh.

Back at it this afternoon.

If you want, I could come along to your meeting, and poke you with my stick if you start snoring......
