....thank you for that...I yam what I yam....potato....Noted, and still happy about it. Your brand of humor puts me in mind of a buddy I met online about 9 years ago...we were mods and then lower admin on a paranormal forum and were pretty much co-idiots. Still fast friends living on opposite ends of the country.
Just enough humor to be witty without being snarky. I respond to humor.
I devoured it! Our copy has slight water damage, parts have broken away from the binding and I keep reading it.
I'd just seen a movie that Harvey Firestein was in as I was reading this so I pictured him as Wireman. Dependable guy with a big heart and wry sense of humor. Not sure Harvey is what anyone has in mind for him but it's funny how things like that pop into your head.Funny thing, even though Wireman gets a physical description, I always see him as black (I have to force myself to think of him as the description).
I think this was because of the image of a particular black man comes to my mind. I see Wireman as someone whose company can be very enjoyable, with a pleasant smile and an intelligent look in his eyes, and who also has a deep voice. So I think of Mr. Michael Clarke Duncan. It is very difficult for me to beat that image, so perhaps Wireman will always remain at least part black in my mind.
I pictured Wireman as Fred Astaire
....hi there!.....I'd just seen a movie that Harvey Firestein was in as I was reading this so I pictured him as Wireman. Dependable guy with a big heart and wry sense of humor. Not sure Harvey is what anyone has in mind for him but it's funny how things like that pop into your head.
....Alice Krige....The only good thing about the film adaption of Straub's Ghost Story was Astaire as Ricky. I'd pictured him as Ricky Hawthorn when I read I read the book -- as I'm sure countless others did. Well, and the young (then) actress was also quite good. And she was interesting looking. Odd name (Alice Kruge?), I don't feel like looking her up. Very, very disappointing film.
I never thought Wireman was spanish....I still don't not with that last name. Seems most people think he was. I thought he just "saw himself" spanish because he was in love with a mexican woman
Know what? .....You are exactly right. See I have read this like 5 times and I keep falling into the same trap of thinking that Wireman was Spanish himself. His wife was Spanish and now that I think about it, the book makes it pretty clear that he is an Americano who adopted her way of speaking and tendencies during the course of their marriage. I keep forgetting that. Silly me.
