My Mom took me to see them when I was 8 or 9. I loved watching them do their difficult gaits and jumps. We even got to go back into the stables and see them and I got to pet one. That was the last time I saw them, save for on TV. Might I add that if you haven't seen the Disney film, The Miracle Of The White Stallions, you really should!

I shall track that movie down, Tery. Thank you.
The show was quite interesting I thought.
Isn't it odd that they are borm a dark color, and then turn white.
They ard so gentle, and with their trainers for over 20 years.
What I wouldn't give to pet one of them!

...I used to have dark hair before it turned white-but never had the accompanying gracefulness......:biggrin-new:

I watched this. It was really good.

The fact that their little babes are born brown or black and turn full white at about 6 was something I did not know.

And, they are allowed to run the hillside with the fillies for a while right after they are weaned. Then the fillies are taken and then it is just the boys until they are 4 to start training to see if they will become one of the best to use in the shows.

And, they let their horses breed the old fashion way. That surprised me as many mares can be hurt in the process. Usually artificial insemination is used.

I felt so bad for the yearlings who were being separated from mom (because moms were pregnant with new babes). That hurt my heart to see.

And when we got to see the mother giving birth, the baby's legs were so long!!!! Just spindly long legs! Cracked me up to see him skittering around like a water bug as his mom and he were led out to pasture.

Finally, I was very happy to know that all of their training is done with love and kindness. Slow and peaceful. That was nice to learn.
