Howdy Mr. Crandall. I lent my copy to a friend at work and she said "Ooh Stephen King! This should be good.". I said "It is! It's a great love story.".
Hi mal - I was at the Co-op food store yesterday and bought a copy of the paper back 11/22/63 - in case I want to read it again.

A very nice member here sent me a first edition hard cover! (plus I have the large soft cover one I bought in 2014 in Mansfield Ohio).

I am looking forward to seeing the Hulu series (although I don't even know what Hulu is - probably some sort of service one has to subscribe to I guess?)

This might be slightly unrelated to the OP's original topic (as this is in the books section, rather than film or TV series) but does anyone know if the character of Sadie plays a prominent role in the new upcoming Hulu series?

From what I gather, it is focused more on the assassination rather than any love story - thanks in advance.
Those rumors are not true. Sadie and Jake's love story is very much a prominent part of the Hulu series.

Hi Neesy, I too am looking forward to the upcoming series. This year I am slapping an antenna on my roof for the local HD channels, dropping my cable, and subscribing to one (or more...depending on the cost) of those services. Regarding your latest purchase, I was very happy this Christmas when the collective family got me 14 Stephen King books I didn't have. All used of course but that is what I requested. I am currently re-reading 'The Shining' and am enjoying it incredibly. Happy Upcoming Louis Riel Day! All the best, mal.

It's good to have a day off in the middle of February - they should have made it official years ago.

I feel the same, i try to hold myself up, coz it's not fair to judge on a whole Series based on teasers.
Updated: Ooooops, haven't seen Ms. Mod's answer before post this message.

So I see the person playing Sadie turns out to be a Canadian - huh!

:monkey_scratch:I hope she does it well and plays her the way she is portrayed in the book.

Hello,

*SPOILERS*

I've just finished the audio book version of 11/22/63. It's the first book in a long while that has so thoroughly consumed my attention and I must confess it has left me in a strange place. Don't get me wrong, I loved it and it ranks among my top reads, but I just can't help feeling distraught over the romance of Sadie and Jake. I understand he did the right thing for reality, and that Sadie lead a long, accomplished life. I've gone over the last few pages several times, and I still have this lingering doubt:

Was Sadie happy with her new life?

She has done many noble things, and I certainly don't mean to suggest that a woman needs a man to be happy, but Sadie and Jake were made to be together. Two star-crossed lovers separated by an ocean of time. Was there a missing part in her life, a dull ache that she couldn't place? Apparently she had dreams of the other 'string,' of her time with "George." I know that Jake will probably never get over it. I just wonder if Sadie has lived these long years between 1963 and now with the same ache. I hope that is not true, but my heart sinks whenever I ponder the situation (which I have been doing a lot of).

To me, the Sadie/Jake dynamic is the core of the book and the Oswald business is just a means to an end. I want to believe in happy endings, but Jake seems to have saved the world at the cost of his own soul. Or heart, at least. Perhaps there are no happy endings. Or we must seize whatever small kernel of joy we can get our filthy mitts on.

Mr. King, if you ever come across this, I realize it is your want and discretion to craft characters, and you do a real bang-up job of it. Extremely compelling characters, at that. I just can't shake this sadness in speculating on Sadie's life. I don't know if any of these characters will ever show up in your work again, but please throw me a bone.

Thanks for getting to the end of a long read,
Mike

PS. As a coincidence, my wife happens to be a blond, 6'00" woman prone to accidents.

The power of Mr Kings writing never ceases to amaze me, everyone seems to feel a loss at the end of 11.22.63. Something akin to a bereavement.
Spoilers follow:
4 days after finishing the same audio book, I am still thinking it through and feeling odd emotions. The ending certainly wasn't what I wanted but the happy ending of Jake going back wouldn't have been as powerful. The questions the ending has raised in us all wouldn't have occurred. The outpouring of emotions, the grief we feel for Jake knowing his loss... We feel it because we have lived with him and shared his love so we feel the loss ourselves. To invoke such emotions in so many is surely the mark of a master story teller.

Sadie has also lost, but she has gained as well, she has a life so tragically snatched. It may not have been the life we wanted for her, a life with Jake, but she has no confirmed memory of him. Perhaps she dreams of him, we all have dreams, but are they dreams of other realities, other possibilities?

Many of us yearn for a sequel where Jake says to hell with the consequences I love her and need her and I'm going back. I don't think this is possible; the yellow card man said after Jake returns the dinner would be removed and the time bubble dismantled. This would certainly prevent him doing this. Perhaps he tried but failed.

Also as Jake himself said near the end, he is older, 47 and Sadie would still be 28, would she fall for him again? It wouldn't be the same. He has memories of them and is content. He knows she lived, and that is, I hope, enough for him. After all to give her life is the best gift he could give her. I do hope they became friends after the last dance. They deserve that at the very least.

This afternoon I looked up "Sadie Dunhill" on the internet, just as Jake had done in 11-22-63, but did not expect to find anything except references to the "film" I had just seen yesterday.
I was surprised to find this site, with the thoughts of many people affected by 11-22-63 just as I was, even if most were in the 2014 past.

I wrote something longer just before this input, but it was noted that a "moderator" (?) would review it.
It mentioned a similar short story I wrote, and I suppose it was never posted. Correct?
We do not allow original work to be posted to the site. Marsha moved the post I think you're talking about to Self Promotion.

I am not a writer. I wasn't self promoting; I was offering. What I wrote, before listening to 11-22-63, has similar but very different aspects of separation by time. I like it very much, sometimes cry reading it (no joke), but two magazines rejected it a year ago and it will never be published.
Sorry. I am new to this kind of posting, and am somewhat a dinosaur.
