Open Carry Texas, the NRA and Freaky, Crazy Crud.

Discussion in 'Other Hot Topics' started by Sigmund, Jun 9, 2014.

    Good afternoon.

There's some crazy serious crud going on and somebody better do something or we're doomed.

Last month some members of a gun organization called Open Carry Texas went to a Chipotle's restaurant carrying heavy duty weapons (Military style weapons.) scaring the he11 out of patrons.

Chipotle had to institute a "No Guns" policy. Really.

And other restaurants followed with "No Guns" policies.

The NRA seemed *embarrased * by this and stated their displeasure.

I don't know about you, but I see someone with an Ak-47 walk into a restaurant, mall, church...in the street and I'm gonna hit the deck and pull out MY gun and everyone carrying a weapon is going to have guns and ...imagine the melee.

Open Carry Texas has chosen the BLM as its next *target*.

The couple who ambushed and murdered the two police officers and one other person before killing themselves Sunday? They were out at Clive Bundy's stand off with the law officials a few months ago.

I believe people have a right to OWN guns but carry them out and about in public? That's a disaster waiting to happen.

(Hmmmm...could THAT be it? Are these gun nut groups baiting/taunting/instigating a square off with the *goverment* and a blood bath?)

    Thoughts, please?

I agree. Why would you need a big gun going out for a meal? I'd run, fast out of the place. While you have right to own a gun, you don't get to scare the s*** out of people who aren't threatening you.

I don't blame anyone for being alarmed at having people show up at their local restaurant, mall, theater, or any public place armed like that and applaud the establishments that have a "No Guns" policy. The pendulum has swung too far to the corner of the gun rights advocates and needs to come back to the point where there are more responsible ways of continuing gun ownership without endangering the public.

Open carry has always been an interesting topic. I can see several different scenarios coming from a tactical viewpoint. From a perpetrator stand point, seeing several people openly armed in an establishment might make you think twice before committing whatever deranged act you are intent on, but from another viewpoint, as a perpetrator sizing up a place, open carry allows you to choose who to take out first in order to minimize anyone shooting back at you. From my personal viewpoint, it's impossible to achieve 100% situational awareness 100% of the time. I strive to always put myself where I can watch doors and windows in any business I'm in, but everyone is human and you might miss someone walking in who's about to open up. You might be on your cell phone, or otherwise distracted. In that situation, I'd rather not be interpreted as an immediate threat by the perpetrator. If he/she doesn't see a weapon displayed on my person, he/she might dismiss me for a few seconds, giving me valuable time to try and get close or to draw my weapon and engage the shooter. If the shooter notices me openly carrying a weapon but yakking on my cell, it's not going to be much of a decision for him/her to walk up behind me and turn my lights out as the first order of business. Overall, I'll always take the element of surprise over a gunfight at the OK corral.

Any countries out there that currently have open carry that we would want to emulate? Just sayin'.

    Yes, Ma'am.

Would I be wrong to guess/assume these people, Open Carry Texas and other Open Carry states are exactly the ones who should scare the crap outta people? I truly believe they mean it when they say, "You can have my gun when you take it out of my cold dead hand."

Fanatics and guns are not a good mix.

    Hi, Sir.

Me, too. I always sit with my back to a wall, have a line of vision of doors and the cash register (robberies) and an exit door or window close. I also have a gun in an ankle holster and try to keep a low profile. A little, cowering female is not seen as a threat and all I need is a few seconds.

I have no shame to say, these people are freaky scary.

There is no reason for someone to be carrying those types of weapons anywhere. Sheer stupidity. More like a child craving attention- Oh look at me! Look at me! I have a big-big gun! Aren't I just the coolest??!!

    GNTLGNT The idiot is IN

...that kind of public display is a sheer perversion of "Open Carry"...and the type of gun owner that gives us true gun nuts a bad name and reputation...

I know all that because I'm an activist against gun violence; against gun VIOLENCE, not gun OWNERship; but when I said something about it on here, someone said I can "kiss [his] lovin ass."
So I decided against talking much about it. I hear that and worse from the people you're describing in this post, I've got nothing left over to endure from anyone else.
I've heard people say that "Adam Lanza should still be allowed to carry a gun even knowing what we know now, because as an American citizen it's his right to bear arms."
He clarified that he knew the guy was a baby killer (he killed 20 first graders), but still turned right around and said he "would still give him the right to bear arms even after what he did, because it's his constitutional right to bear arms."
That's beyond insane and I find myself no longer able to tolerate such statements.

I really can't figure out how to get the point pierced into people's heads that I'm NOT against gun ownership. It's like someone from the NRA came by and personally induced hypnosis and then told them they're "getting very tired...going to sleep..will believe ANY amount of sane alternatives to gun violence is an attempt to take away your firearm which will make you resist anything they say no matter if it's rational."
I can't figure out what the he11 else could be making their mind so impermeable.

BTW you probably don't want to know what Stephen King thinks about Adam Lanza. He said some of it in the essay 'Guns.' He appeared even more angry about what happened than I felt. And he had no problem saying so.

they're doing this crap here, too...

only, being a solid R state...no one's stopping the insanity....

the 'state' has now written a law that disallows any city, county...any govt at any level from having any laws that don't jibe with the official 'state' version...

as such, most cities are now being forced to rescind some fairly innocous regulations....heck, they can't even destroy guns taken off bad guys: you, too, could buy adam lanza guns and wear 'em proudly

..'course...these very same pols would (and do...every day) rankle on if the feds wanted to do any similar such power play about anything: snail darter, anyone ???

    but, hey...if you're an intolerant fascist...at least you're our type, right ??

As a sane gun owner, this open carry crap really pisses me off. First of all, it is my personal opinion that any man who feels he has to wave a gun around, has... how shall I put it?... a deficit in the genital area. Guns are very obvious penis substitutes and the men whom we are speaking about (we all seem to be on the same page, here) must feel this way. Why else would anyone bring a f**king AR15 to a damned Chile's or Target? It's stupid and crazy and, as noted by GNT, makes us sane gun owners look bad.

The NRA has lost its compass. It used to represent sane gun owners and champion sane gun laws. Now, it's been usurped by paid shills for the gun manufacturers. Why do you think they've been screaming about the government coming to take their guns? They are scaring the crazies with Bullsh1t and making loads of money by doing so. Nobody is coming to take your guns, the government isn't buying up all the ammunition and Elvis isn't selling.38s at the county gun show. Geezum crow, as Uncle Stevie would say, don't these twits have any powers of discernment? That was a rhetorical question, sadly. Because, judging by what we've seen the past 5 1/2 years, they most certainly do not.

And just ask yourself one question, anyone who does support this nonsense: would you feel the same if the people open carrying were black? Yeah. Didn't think so. :glare:

  19. I don't think the Open Carry Texas group will succeed in its efforts to change Texas law. Texas is currently one of only a few states that still ban open carry. Texas laws regarding when you can legally shoot a trespasser are a bit more lenient than most states but unlike Hollywood's stereotypical Texans, most of us are not gun nuts :)

I don't like open carry. Law enforcers have a tough enough time determining intent, they are not mind readers, they cannot tell just by looking at a gun carrier whether he's a threat or just a good ol boy.
